2nd grow, completely new setup.

This is my second grow. My first grow was in an area the size of 19inX31inX4ft tall. I used cfls with a total of 240w and 17600lumens. Now i just got this new room up and running a couple days ago. The new room's dimensions are 22inX31X5ft tall. And i got my new 250w HPS light for this grow. I made a cool tube so i could cool the light separately from the rest on the room. It vents on one side and exhausts on the other side. And i have the room exhaust in the ceiling going outside and then an intake on the bottom of the room. I am going to upgrade from the pc fan that i am using at the moment for room exhaust fan and put in a in-line fan so it will exhaust the heat and the smell to the outside soon. I did not like the smell in my house on the first grow. I mean i did not mind it but i could not have company over because of it. I have a Digital Humidity and temperature monitor in the room and my temps are around 75f and the humidity is around 25%-50%. It goes up and down. I just got my 5 AK-47 clones and 1 Northern Lights clone 2 days ago and they are doing fine. They range from 17in to 28in tall. I am getting another AK and one more Northern Lights for mothers and i will start talking my own clones from that point on. I get the clones for cheap so that is why i am doing it this way for now. looks good. hopefully that foil doesnt dry out ur leaves too fast.

Its not foil. It is that heating and air conditioning duct covering. It is like a chrome bubble wrap. It works just as good as mylar and it is easier to work with. The only place that i put foil is at the top of the room in the corners so it helps keep the light in and light out. These plants have only been in 12/12 light for 3 days and they are already showing female hairs. My last grow under cfls took like 12 days to show sex. I think that i will really like this HPS setup.

i used that reflective insulation in one of my cabs with CFLs never seen such bad heat problems. had 4 cpu fans running in there. 2 out 1 in and 1 on the lights. stuff insulates your area too much. i switched to just painting the walls white. no more heat troubles.

OK, thanks for the info. I will take it down and just paint the inside with white paint. Should it be glossy or flat?

I took the heating duct wrap down and have the mylar bach up and the temps are down to 75degrees and i also added a small humidifier and the humidity is up to 45% so i think it will help alot. It is better than the 24% that i had before.

I checked my thermometer today and the highest that it got up to was 80 with a humidity of 55% and the lowest temps overnite was 65 and the humidity at nite was 53%. I like those numbers. Now if i can keep it like that for about a month and then start dropping the humidity down to 40% it should be perfect.

Well i got bored today and took down the mylar and just painted the room flat white. It looks better and now i don't have to listen to the mylar make that noise when the fan is on. I always hated that sound. I think the white walls work better than the mylar. At least the room looks a lot brighter now.

Ive always wondered how that stuff works I almost bought soem the other day.. I really like your setup man it looks great keep up the good work!!

Hey guys, thanks for checking out my grow. I worked on it alittle bit yesterday and added a 6in inline fan to my exhaust to help get rid of smell and heat. Here are a couple pics of the plants at 16 days of 12/12 lighting. I have one AK-47 clone that i am keeping my eyes on because it looks to me that it is turning hermie. I had one do that on the last grow and seeded all the plants. It was my first grow and i did not really know what to look for. But if this one is a hermie i will cut it down and throw it away. I can rub the stems of the AK's and then rub the stems of the Northern Lights and i can honestly tell a difference in the smell of the two different strains. I will keep updating pics atleast once a week.

Well here is the one that i was worried about. It is infact a freakin hermie. I cut it up and got rid of it. I only found one male flower that looked like it was open. I hope that it was not enough to polinate all my plants in there. But the way my luck has been it probably will be nothing but seeds. I get my clones for 15$ each and this is the second grow where i have gotten a AK47 that turned out to be hermie so i think i will just order some seeds for my next grow. Just don't know what strain to get. I want something mostly indica because i am using a 250w HPS so i don't have the light penetration of the bigger hps lights so i want a good strain that will stay kinda short without having to flower it too early. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

This is what i did today. I have always hated that if i wanted to just take a quick look at the plants and to check the temps and humidity level because i would have to take the door off all the time and for the most part the door has been off during most of the lighting hours. Well today i decided to put like a 2 way mirror type of little window in the side wall of my grow room and be able to cover it with like a framed picture or a mirror. The window works perfectly. I want to find some 2 way mirror plexiglass and replace the mylar that i had to make it out of for now. So now i can just take the picture frame down and take a quick look in on the girls and not have to open the room up and i am able to keep all the light in the room. I would loose alot of light with the door open all the time. I will do a better job on it when i find the plexiglass to put up. But it works just fine right now.

The only negative i have is that the plants look a little on the skinny side so what i would do would be maybe add a small oscillating fan to create a breeze similar to nature to promote stronger stems that can support big buds. other than that i would say that the room is awesome and super clean which helps everything. good temp and humidity! god luck and hope i helped

Thanks Cali. I have always wondered just how high i should have my light. It is right at 12 inches above the tops of the plants. I will lower it a couple inches a day until i find the sweet spot. I appreciate the kind words about my grow room and my grow. I really am kinda lucky that i can skip the veg stage by just buying clones. I can get them at any height. I could get them when they have just takin roots or i can get them like i did this time. They are huge, 3 of them was 28in tall and the other two was 19in tall. I only have like 4.7sqft of space so i really did not know just how many to put it the room. I started with 6 and one turned hermie so i cut it down. Now i am down to 5 plants. I will be getting my ph tester this week so i will finally know how my water is. I am having one problem. The tips of the leaves are starting to curl up and are really dry. It is only on the tips. I thought it might be nute burn but I have only fed them twice, once at 1/4 strength and one at half strength. And the tips are not turning yellow but just drying up and curling up. I will post a few pics so you can see. The first one is of the curling leaves. And the other two are just some pics of a couple plants. The last one is my tallest at 33in tall. Well that is how tall it would be if the top was not lst'd. I think for my next grow, i will get the clones a couple weeks before this harvest and try to veg them under my cfl setup for a couple weeks to try to get the stems and branches to thicken up a little before i stick them in the flowering room.

I also posted a thread on my little window that i made to look in on them from time to time without having to open the door all the time on them. I was called lazy for having it. I guess some people just don't get the idea of STEALTH. It is a lot better than having the door open all the time and i am able to take advantage of all the lumen's from the light with the door closed. The little window is my favorite thing that i have done to my room. Now when i get up and go to the kitchen to get something all i have to do is take the picture off the wall and take a quick look in on my girls. Thanks again for the compliments everyone. I really hope to be able to grow some dank plants like i see a lot of you growing. This is only my second grow and i think i have learned a lot. Anyway, happy growing to everyone.

Here are a few pics that i got tonight before the lights went off for the night. The first two pics are the Northern Lights and the third one is of an AK47. The last one is of all 5 in the room from above. I am going to get some of the stainless steel wire that FDD used to wrap around the branches. He uses it to position the branches in any shape he wants. I will be using it real soon so i can position every bud site where it needs to be to get direct light. Kinda like a scrog grow but this way i can still take the plants out of the room individually if i need to flush or do anything else i need to. That is the only draw back that i see in using a scrog with soil. I am starting to get curious on just how much i will get with these 5 plants. This stuff is a real blast.
