its just math dude. cubic feet of tent vs cfm. doesnt matter what type of fan it is. air doesnt discriminate between fan types. perhaps your tent has a small passive intake? there is many different designs out there. that could prevent your tent temps from being cooler.
what im saying is booster fans are fine for small tents/boxes because of they're small spaces. use a booster fan in a 4x4 and you're asking for problems.
you're welcome to spend $60+ on big 450 cfm inlines, plus $50 for a variac to dial them down in a 2x2/2x3. Or get a $25 250cfm booster fan, with a more appropriate cfm for the tent size, and a $20 speed controller.
