I'm a first time grower and i haven't been using any lightbulbs, i've been growing them in my room off sunlight. The oldest is 9 weeks old because i germinated seeds at different times and i want to flower some of them a little early. What are the cheapest good working florescent lightbulb/s
And how many watts is good for flowering 2 or 3 plants?

That sounds strange, could you upload some pics of the setup and everything, don't see how you're doing it honestly. For your question, Get High pressure sodium lamps for flowering and i'd say you power 250 :)

Buy HID.. Itll be alot better in the longrun.. You need alot of CFLs to get a good yeild.. Like 50 watts per square foot..

really stretched....so you are gonna get popcorn bud, unless get yourself a 250 or 400watt HID for 2-3 plants.

buy a 250w cfl off ebay for $80 and see what you can get out of it.
If youve been just keeping it in the window, where do you plan on putting them for the 12/12?

yea .. cant do this half .. do the research .. do it right ..

just keep em as house plants .. for funn in the window .. who know .. might get 1 gram of top bud smoke in the end :D
if you want to do a littel extra .. get a littel lamp hanging down over it with a 23W CLF warm white (2700 kelvin) from your local "walmart" 8$ or so ..
will do a littel for it ..

either that or do it right and get a tent with ventilation/filter and a good light source ..

I'm going to do 12/12 in my basement so they'll have enough room for anything i just need to figure out the light situation. Does using a lot of 30-40w lights work the same

No, not even close.
In fact I just read that whether you have one 40w cfl, or fifteen 40w cfl's, the actual intensity will still be no higher than 40w. Makes sense when you think about. You are just simply adding more bulbs at 40w, yet the intensity of the light is still 40w.
Better off with at least a 250 cfl

Why not just make your own reflector. I made a pretty damn usefull one with 2 disposable turkey pans.
Also, the one in the link is a 6500k bulb. You want the 2700 if you are simply going to use just one bulb through the whole grow
