Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

Getting red light to the lower part of the plant seems to make some nice nugs for me. It's the very reason why the lower 2 sets of my side light bars use mostly 3000k and 660nm in equal amounts with a pretty small amount (~3%) of blue and 6500k (5%). As I understand it, the lower parts of the...

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

<br><br> I've seriously considered 5050 strips too. It's a good solution for side lighting. I had some eBay 50w square panels I used for side lighting but the spectrum was only red and blue and the shape was all wrong for my space. They did help so I just took it further by making a shape that...

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

I do have a top light. It's a Hydrogrow 189x-pro and it's on a light rail mover to spread the love. The reason it looks a little thin in the photo is because I had just removed leaves to get more light to more buds. I don't have a photo of the mature crop but it did bulk up significantly in...

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

In the picture you refer to there are 4 drivers for the 4 top bars. 2 of them have black plastic housings. In the latest picture none of the drivers are pictured. There are 16 drivers in total. One for each bar. The two lower sets of bars are built with 1 watt Chinese Epistars mostly warm...

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

The drivers do get warm to the touch but not hot. I have been busy. Here's a picture of the latest setup at about a month into flower. I now have 4 levels of led bars surrounding the grow. The surrounding bars use a total of 347 watts when they're all lit.

    The 'Shimmer' Experiment

A light mover does it for me. I use a light with 60 degree lenses. In the beginning, I had problems with too much intensity causing light bleaching with the light stationary. With addition of the mover my yield increased dramatically and the bleaching was resolved. What I see now is that...

    Dtw system ,few Q's

A 500lph pump should work just fine. Just think what would happen if you were to pour that much onto your plants in an hour! Just be aware that pumps lose effectiveness in relation to how far the water is to be pumped vertically. It's a matter of how long the pump needs to operate to feed the...

noob grower need advice on led lights :)

I agree with everyone on this. 28 watts might be ok for a little basil but not for cannabis and a balanced spectrum of light is needed to make the magic happen. I started using LED several years back with 50 watt panels and quickly realized that they were inadequate because they don't...

    Best LEDs today? Share info!

Hi JMD, I like the Luxeon ES. http://shop.stevesleds.com/LUXEON-ES-3-Watt-LEDs_c27.htm I have several home made LED panels using the Luxeon ES's and I am very happy with them. As far as I know they don't make a far red so the LedEngin may be your best choice for that piece of the spectrum...

Trustworthy + cheap Brand LED sellers

The last several lights I have constructed have been with the Phillips Luxeon ES stars from http://shop.stevesleds.com/ Check out the data sheets. He has some pretty good bins. The prices are not cheap but they are top quality diodes. I have built a few lights using cheap Chinese diodes and...

    500w blackstar led

The light has 168 3 watt leds. They consume an average of ~3v each. 3v x 168 = 504 That's how they get the 500. The leds are typically driven a 550ma. 550ma x 504 = 277 watts consumed by the leds. Add in the fans and it will be a little over 280 watts. If they are driven at say 600ma the...

Any LED DIY Junkies in here. Need Help.

You're welcome! If your led string is 24 you will not likely find a single 500-700ma driver on ebay to replace it with. You probably have 1 diode out. If you want to save money you can bypass (wire around) the open led. You will still have 1 led out but it should not affect the 23 remaining...

New to LED. Need quick opinion. Advanced LED's Diamond Series

10 x 20 is a bit large for 3 of the 350s. If you don't move them with a light mover they should cover 4 x 12 nicely. A light mover helps a lot. I use one because I can keep the light within a few inches of the canopy getting the most light penetration while avoiding the photonic bleaching...

Any LED DIY Junkies in here. Need Help.

Hi I've just been reading your thread. You can use a constant current driver up to 700ma. Most manufacturers opt for somewhere in the neighborhood of 550-650ma for the Chinese 3 watt diodes. It's important to size your driver right by the potential voltage it produces. A good rule of thumb...

Thermal performance between arctic alumina type adhesive and thermal adhesive stars?

It doesn't come right out and say so but it looks like it may be the same product as the silicone based thermal adhesive I mentioned.

Thermal performance between arctic alumina type adhesive and thermal adhesive stars?

I don't get the math either. I just decided to take a chance and try it some time ago because I was wanting a solution that makes future mods doable. My first try was with a small (16 stars) fixture to see if it would be suitable. That fixture is still working today as well as it did on the...

Thermal performance between arctic alumina type adhesive and thermal adhesive stars?

The adhesive stars will work just fine but they are costly. I use this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/270717024919?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 It takes a few days to fully set but is fairly easy to remove if desired since it is silicone based. I have 402 stars on several...
