Reocurring Cloudy Res Water - Ebb & Flow

On the positive side, bleach is cheap and can be used but it's nasty. If you use chlorine get some pool shock as it's calcium hypochloirite rather than sodium hypochlorite. Plants do better with calcium ions rather than sodium ions. A far better solution is a product called Down Under HF...

Reocurring Cloudy Res Water - Ebb & Flow

I've been using H2O2 for several years now and the perfect dose for my aeroponic system comes out to 4.5ml per US gallon daily which is pretty close to 1ml per liter so in your case would be 27ml per day - roughly 2 tablespoons in the res daily should give your roots a good oxygen boost and do...

    how to dispose nute solution?

"Used" nutes are great for the garden plot, compost heap, and indoor plants as long as it's not too strong. Anything green will be happy to have it. Just don't dump it into a stream or lake as that can upset the natural balance which can kill aquatic creatures.

Whats the best way to cut clean holes in the top of a tupperware tote?

I build custom hydro setups for sale locally and found that the best tool for cutting perfectly clean holes in plastic is an adjustable hole cutter. Here's a picture of one. I use a cutter just like the one in the picture to cut holes in vinyl fence post to create a system like the General...

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

The bars are short enough that I can mount or hang them anywhere from the bottom to the top of the plants . Right now they are angled in at roughly 45 degrees which seems to give pretty good coverage. Also the trellis is height adjustable from 20-36" so mounting them at the top as I have may...

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

Time will tell... It's only been in service for days so far. My expectation is that I will get more light filling out the spaces that may not get fully lit by the main light as well as giving the plants a little wider spectral coverage.

Passive cooled 3w DIY LED Halo

Hi Folks, After much reading I decided to give building my own custom LED solution a go. I get really great light penetration with the HG 189-pro but since it uses 60 degree lenses coverage can be an issue. I have the 189 on a mover which really makes a difference but I wanted to take...

    Bleach!!!!!

I use a product called Physan20 to clean everything between uses. It's bactericide, fungicide and virucide. It kills every single celled organism. Standard dose is 1 tsp per gallon. It's toxic to plants at that dose so flushing is necessary but it will absolutely sterilize everything washed...

Considering this 378W Chinese LED panel

I bought some similar lights from a different Chinese manufacturer about a year ago. Recently one of them failed. They sent me a new LED board for replacement but I had to take pictures and diagnose it myself and it took a month to get the replacement part which I had to install. If you don't...

    Silencer/Muffler Q

I can tell you that a duct muffler will definitely help. Get some insulated ducting too. Using un-insulated duct is like adding a noise amplifier. Using both the muffler and the insulted ducting has reduced my noise by more than 1/2 without any CFM loss.

    Best, quietest, 6" fan recommendations?

I too consider noise control very important to keeping things stealth. I use the Soler & Palau TD150x fans. They are very quiet and move a lot of air. I also use a duct muffler right after the fan for extra silence. The whole air system makes about as much noise as the little forced air...

    Reservoir size?

A good rule of thumb is 3 gallons for every 3 foot plant. So, if you grow 10 3 foot plants you'll need 30 gallons. 10 4 footers = 40 gallons.

    Professionals only please.

The brown roots are most likely caused by too wet condition. The babies will recover and produce new roots if the conditions are right. The brown ones may not recover but new ones should poke out. The most common mistake growers make is over watering, especially the babies. Remember- moist...

    Professionals only please.

They need very little now. Just keep them moist, not wet. I use a 60ml syringe I got at the grow shop to give the babies their moisture. A little squirt, maybe 5ml, every 12 hours works for me. If you have a cycle timer you can use sprayers and spray the media for like 10 seconds every 6-8...

    HELP - Cleaned RDWC with Physan 20 - Foaming/Bubbles ???

I have used Physan20 with good results. The stuff will foam even at a small concentration. To kill root rot the dosage is only 1ml for every 3 gallons and only for a few days. I know that airstones are pretty much out of the question while it's in the system. If it were my res I'd flush it...
