the ballast's wattage should match the bulb, the only exception I know is you can run a special 430 watt bulb in a 400 watt ballast.

you can get a 250 watt hps/mh combo unit from High Tech Garden Supply for as little as 168.00 dollars plus shipping and comes with both an hps bulb for flowering and MH conversion bulb for vegging.

if you use a 250 MH your light emitted would still be around 6500K in the color spectrum but you get light 23000 lumens with tube lights you only get 5000 lumens per bulb and they don't stack up 6 5000 lumen bulbs is not the same as one bulb that puts off 30000.

the higher K means its better for veg growth and a lower K means it better for flowering 6500K=veg 2700K=flower

the k=Kelvin its the spectrum of light emitted by the bulb.

yeah it comes with both but your not going to get nearly as good flowering results with that as you would with an hps. hps has much more lumen output than those bulbs do.

how big is your room(s), how many plants do you want grow ??? give me some detials of what you hope to accomplish and I can give you an idea on the kind of lighting your going to need.

lots of people use those kind of lights, heard they work real well for mothers, clones, and vegging but not ideal for flowering. I use 400 watters one mh and one hps.

i used mg in past works fine but don't use at full strength. I did half strength every third watering. any more and I got slight nute burn on tips of leaves.

i would go with the 600, but remember because your grow room(area) is open your not going to get 11000 + lumens per square foot because you have now way to keep the light only in your grow area. the only way you would get 11000+ lumens per square foot is to close the room around the light to...

seems a bit pricey to me you can get a kit like that that is bigger for about the same money from High Tech Garden Supply. Looks good though I sure it would work great, but I am with you unless you sog there is no way you could grow 9 large plants in there.

Its probably the ballast since it does that with both lamps, as stated before make sure your ballast is wired for the voltage your trying to use but if you used it before and worked right and you didn't change countries then it probably isn't a wiring issue.

Update, I just repotted my plants into there 10 inch containers today and I was surprised to see the amount of root growth already formed in the six inch pots they were in. I will post some new pics in a few days.

that sucks, if you cut all the fan leaves off I can't imagine that the plant is going to yield much of anything. The fan leaves are the biggest factories of the plants without those it has lost a great deal of its energy producing capabilities. Not to say it will die or not yield anything just...

you need ventilation for you closet if its going to be seal up pretty good your hps will get warm and will need the heat drawn away from it. I grow in my closest as well (one 400 watter in each closet) and have an a/c unit in the room with the two grow closets to keep heat down.

you have to turn to 12/12 to be sure, but if you let a plant mature before you flower it you should see preflowers that should give you a real good idea of its sex.
