Depends what medium you use, how often you flood during the light, and how wet the medium is before the lights turn off.. I use hydroton and flood once during the dark period, and every two hours during "lights on". Look at and check your plants for signs of dryness; if there aren't any...

Take out the heater and let the water be at room temp. This will discourage the growth of nasties in it and (surprisingly enough) happens to the "perfect" temp for water to be warm enough to be usable by roots and also hold the most dissolved oxygen.
