What is a good LED light for a beginner?

Check out Astir. Pre-built DIY panels with their own custom R/W/B ratio at $80 a pop. For a couple hundo you can get two of those which should make a single plant very happy. That's about all I got. Maybe others will chime in with something I'm not thinking of.

What is a good LED light for a beginner?

You didn't mention a price range so I'm just gonna start talking. >< The Kessil H350 Magenta would probably mate well with your CFL's. The H350M is considered by the manufacturer as supplemental lighting for flowering, but if you do a search I think it can be used full cycle...

What if you used something like this with one of these installed in it instead? Paint the new lens and presto! Seems more worth your while to use high power LED chips when the powder is so expensive. Both those links are the same seller so maybe he can swap them out, or have them custom made...

    Led Users Unite!

Too much Blue (or any wavelength for that matter) stunts growth. Plants use Blue light primarily for vegetative growth. I think what you read had to do with Blue light in combination with White LED's. White LED's produce a good amount of Blue light to begin with. Adding lots of Blue's on top of...

Does stacking wattage work? Five 75W = 375W?

Yes, Watts are additive. You got it right. What you want to do will work, HOWEVER, if you mess it up and forget about your plants (forget to turn the lights on) you could cause undue stress on your girls and cause them to herm. Be careful 'cause I'm almost sure you don't want seeds. :bigjoint:

Dang, that sounds rough. That's a pretty big blow to the efficiency increase we were hoping for, right? Best of luck with your endeavors. Keep us posted, it all sounds really interesting.

Some in the blend? Do they sell single LED's with individual lenses? I thought you needed a "mixing chamber."

Central DIY LED Link location- Beginning to End!

Cool thread. I'll take a crack at it. Q: How much heat sink do I need? The range of heat sink surface area that KNNA recommends for passive cooling is 125-150cm2/watt of dissipation. "Watt's of dissipation" being the total number of Watts that your LED panel consumes at the plug, minus the...

    Should i go LED?

Lots of grows you can check out on this site. Are they worth it? That's for you to decide. Have you thought about induction lights and some supplemental red+far red LED's...

Why do the Kessil H350 Deep Purple's suck so much ass?

You don't think that'd stress your plants out? Idk, maybe if the Kessil slowly dimmed while the other grew brighter and brighter. Just thinking out loud here, Idk.

Can you do an experiment? Connect the WW to a different driver or switch so you can turn them on/off and see immediately if there is a difference? You should not lose the Blue peak of the WW, it should shift the peak of the Deep Blue, which it seems to have done.

    Thermoelectric coolers on DIY LED's?

Yup, passive cooling is tried and tested for this application. Nothing wrong with it once you get past initial cost and weight as far as I'm concerned. And I don't mean to detract from its simplicity or effectiveness (or Astir ) by any means. These thermo pads have an operating range...

Fonzarelli: Those are some sick images. Doesn't look too far off from what SDS was saying about a relatively straight line across the board from 400nm to 750nm, imo. Anyway, if all you want to do is stimulate peak absorption that's fine. It's been proven to work. I think this thread is...

    Thermoelectric coolers on DIY LED's?

My idea for this thread is simply cooling DIY LED panels effectively and for cheap. You can always scour the internet (like I have) for the right sized extruded Aluminum job, but that could get expensive quickly especially after considering the number of and size of the panels you'd like to...
