    Growing..a hobby, obsession, an experience?

That just isn't a fair question!!! lol....how far along are the plants?

    How do they look?

Well since you have an HPS ballast, why don't you get an HPS bulb? It will definitely show its true colors in the flowering process. Technically you can use Metal Halide all the way though, but you should optimize your grow and find an HPS bulb. Good luck!

    Growing..a hobby, obsession, an experience?

LOL I hear ya bro. I dream about them at least a few times a week. I had a dream my girlfriend destroyed them. When I woke up, I woke her up and said you better do nothing of the sort!! LOL. She probably thinks I'm a crack head now. O well.

    Growing..a hobby, obsession, an experience?

This morning when I woke up I immediately went to my litte babies and made sure they were O.K. It was the first thing on my mind! I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to adjust the lights or if anything happened while I was asleep. Over the past few months of learning and researching, I...

    Okay. Help? Maybe?

The spiral bulb will work. That is a Compact Flurescent Light (CFL). Use the highest lumen output you can find. Cool White for vegging, warm white for flowering. Only water when the soil looks or feels dry. Make sure some water comes out of the drainage holes and then wait until the soil is...

    Okay. Help? Maybe?

As for bong water, check out this link https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/2507-bong-water.html Using tap water is not always the greatest thing. Usually works, but sometimes doesn't. PH your water and start out with starting soil. You can use starting soil for at least a month before...

Cfl's Which are good for veg

That is correct. Also from your 1st post. Lumens is just how bright the bulb is. Doesn't include anything with the spectrum.

When is it possible to tell gender?

You can not be 100% sure. I am on my 8th day of flowering and still can't 100% say what gender they are. It can take anywhere from a couple of days to 2 weeks. On my last grow it took 13 days. Feels like an eternity! Remember that males show their sex first, then females a little later...

    Draining?

Did you get the Miracle Grow soil that retains moisture a lot better? I know they have a potting soil out there like that.

    Plants Cold

I would if you can, keep the lights on the plants when it is coldest outside. When it is warmer outside, the lights can be off. This should prevent any major shock the plants could go in.

    Watering

This is what I simply do for watering my babies. When the top of soil LOOKS or FEELS dry, I water it enough so that water is coming out for the drain holes at the bottom. Make sure you have really good drain holes as this will prevent your babies from drowning! Good luck with any new grow!

earliest point at which light is needed?

As for your 1st question, as soon as I plant my little babies I start the timer on 16/8 and then whenever they pop up, the timer is in control now. So they could pop up in the middle of the lighting hours or even when it's dark. Whatever the situation, everything will be fine as the plants...

    Sprouting seeds -Help-

It could take anywhere from 1 day to even a week. Give them a few days. You should be fine. Make sure soil is moist, but not drenched. Good luck!
