First grow - help starting my little babies

Go easy on seedlings. The CFL can handle things for at least week or two before you hit them with the 1000w. No on the drip system if you are using on soil. Soil needs to get dry and then be flooded, get dry and be flooded. A constant wetness leads to all sorts of trouble.

Jorge Cervantes is a big fat idiot.

The only reason we get this second book is because people bought the first one. If people don't buy this one there are no more...for better or worse. It really is that simple.

    WANTED:cheap ways to cool res.

You might try and ask in this thread too. Lots of smart people using that exact same pump... https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/116859-harvest-pound-every-three-weeks.html

    WANTED:cheap ways to cool res.

Damn. It is always something isn't it? Short answer is that I don't know. I see they sell inline filters though. Any chance of reusing the filter from the pump and just affixing it to the end of the hose that is doing the sucking? A zip tie or something...

    WANTED:cheap ways to cool res.

Nice tub. You can run that pump outside the res. Pop the end off by the filter and then use hoses.

Can you start seeds under 12/12?

I've never done it, but I've seen the pros recommended this: Grow your seed normally under the assumption it is a female. As soon as possible, take a cutting and treat that like a clone and throw it under 12/12 to get it to show sex. The advantage of sexing the clone is that you find out sex...

    post your firehazard pics here

And before someone comes here and says hey, using a cooked power strip might not be 100% up to code, I'll have you know that I wired my own house and it works fine. A little tip for anyone thinking about re-wiring their house, go with aluminum wiring over copper wiring. It's a proven fact...

    post your firehazard pics here

Technically this powerstrip WAS a fire hazard, but it seems to work fine now. I was able to buy it for only $7.00 off Craigslist! People throw away too much perfectly good stuff in my opinion. Anyways, I've been running my 1000W on it for a couple days now as a test and it seems to work fine so...

    diagnosis confirmation please tds/ec

I think I would run some straight water through each pot and then at the next watering start back up with the proper level of nutes.

    diagnosis confirmation please tds/ec

You can't convert EC to TDS. That's like converting MPH into hours - makes no sense. EC is a measurement of TDS. The other measurement of TDS is ppm. Here is a converter for EC to ppm: http://www.4hydroponics.com/convertPPM.htm From the pics, I think you have overnuted them. Check on your nute...

    WANTED:cheap ways to cool res.

Any chance you can get your pump out of the res? That is to blame for a good chunk of the heat. Sorry, but I don't remember exactly how your set-up was, but even some of the cheap pumps allow you to run inline -that is keep the pump outside the res while it still pumps water. There is also just...

I'm still watching. Looking good! I hope you blow my estimate away.

    Is low ppm bad?

Forget all about mm, ml, tsp, and tbsp and converting. The only number you need to worry about is ppms. Just keep adding nutes until to get to the desired ppm - it doesn't matter how many tsps it takes to get there.

    Is low ppm bad?

It is bad. You should buy more nutes. You are going to slow their growth, not kill them right away, but definitely slow their growth. Imagine the gas line of your vehicle being pinched together - the car will only go so fast with limited gas - same with your plants. I suspect your plants will...

Harvest a Pound Every Three Weeks!

I'd be inclined to not worry about the bulb. Out in the real world, most all HPS applications I can think of are unvented. Streetlights, security floodlights, indoor and outdoor stadium lights, etc. I think you might just have to try it and see what it does to the room temp and how far away...

DirtHawkers first indoor aero/nft "stinkbud design" medical grow

What I do is snip a leaf off and then lay it on my desk on some white paper and good lighting so I can properly focus on it with the microscope. Look to the edge of the leaf and you'll get a great look at the trichomes.

    SoG Grow Room Discussion

Yak, I didn't see if you answered Westmich or not, I apologize if I missed it, but I'm very curious too. These threads like SOG's, Stinkbuds, and Al's are a real treat. Jewels in a vast wasteland. Thanks. Anyways, he asked: I am curious to what the performance difference is between ebb and...

Harvest a Pound Every Three Weeks!

My thought is that I hope someone didn't get caught by the wife using the good knife to cut pool noodles, lol. I could go with slicing and drilling, but using the knife to shape those things is is too much...I'd just buy them.
