If you make $50,000, your share is $3,825, but your employer also pays $3,825, which is money he doesn't hand to you. Self-employed people have to pay the whole tax themselves.

no, it is 2%, plus 2% matching funds from my employer, and in ncase you forgot, most of the medicare monies are paid from General Funds, of which Sosh Security is a part. there is no "Lockbox" any more, so yes my Sosh Security taxes are just another generalfund revenue stream.

Gas taxes, vehicle registration taxes, state taxes, county assessments, local sales taxes, excise taxes, sin taxes, use taxes, etc etc etc..

hunting licenses are similar, auto and motorcycle registration taxes are rising every year even as my hoopties get older, the vehicle insurance mandate causes my vehicle insurance to rise every year, etc etc etc. it all adds up.
