Are you for or against gun control?

Oh I can just about guarantee he owns a gun, it may be illegal , but he owns one nonetheless. Criminals don't really care about the laws, hence the reason they are criminals.
and are you really saying...Because criminals may get guns anyway we might as well let them just have them ???

ask the guys in jail for breaking that "felon with gun law" about that IF
If that is what they are in jail for, it seems like a waste of time, space and money and a violation of their rights.
Why should they be in jail for having a gun? That sounds ridiculous
Shouldn't the jail bed be for some one who was doing something wrong?

They got caught being a felon with a gun...it's a federal law that deals with that 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1)

So they owned something that an unconstitutional "law" prohibits them from owning and you see that as a good reason for putting them in jail?
I'm guessing if the person was that violent or dangerous they would have used the gun, if the only thing they were doing was owning a piece of property they were probably doing so without bad intentions, because if they were intending on using the gun to harm others I would think there would be someone getting shot which would make the posession of the gun a non issue, it would be the shooting that would be in question.

You just made a wonderful argument that gun control laws do nothing to prevent bad people from getting guns.

Basically what you just said was that gun control laws will only hinder law abiding citizens, law breaker types don't care and will kill you anyway, especially when they know you aren't armed.

The gun control laws are having the OPPOSITE effect you wished for.

I guess I've been checkmated there, but you misunderstand my ealier statement....whatever. But i still stand by my earlier statement. If we were to have no gun control then we'd have to drop the other laws making it difficult to defend yourself.

How many guys are in jail for violent crimes vs how many have been to jail for having a gun.

I bet those numbers are not even remotely close.

You think they catch more than 1% of felons with guns?

http://bjs.gov/content/pub/ascii/fuo.txt
Says that less than 30,000 people are in prison on weapons charges. ALL Weapons charges.

there are 2,019,463 prisoners in USA

Less than 2% are for ALL Weapons crimes, probably less than 50% that number (Conservatively) are there for felon with a gun.

Looks like MOST felons aren't getting caught, either that or hardly any felons possess guns, but we know that isn't true.

80% of all felons get their guns from family , the street or an illegal source. Less than .7% get them from gun shows.

Less than 7% ever use a rifle to commit a crime.

all sorts of intersting facts that do not agree with your assertions.

Well he should have given that some thought before coming a felon. Don't cry about it now. You knew the rules when you played the game. again if you have a non-violent felony ( only one) its not as hard as some think to get it expunged after so many years. Its just many have more then one or don't even know or try.

What if they make being a democrat a felony? Or make being a republican a felony?
Possession of MJ is already a felony?
Didn't blacks used to be prohibited from owning guns? I'm sure it made lynchings a lot easier..

No, my argument is that creating all sorts of new gun control laws will do NOTHING to stem the tide of murders or violent assaults. In fact it will EXACERBATE them by taking away ones ability to defend oneself from weapon wielding criminals who don't give a shit what the law says.

The problem will get WORSE, not better.

What laws are making it easier to defend myself?

Or did you mean to say that some laws make it so we cannot be prosecuted by other laws for defending ourself?
I think he was saying it should be legal and pretty straight forward if you have an encounter with a bad guy to shoot them and not have an issue- if that's what he was saying, I agree

I thought he was saying that if we don't have gun control laws that we don't need any laws whatsoever. Like the wild wild west ( which had less murders in 100 years than Chicago has in 5.)

I thought this thread was just about gun control. The current laws preventing felons from owning a gun is nothing new and is a part of gun control. Now do you want violent felons owning a gun

laws making it hard to defend yourself. Like the equal force law we have here in NC. If someone breaks into my house with a knife and threatens to slit my throat I can't shoot him. I have to find a knife. That should be dropped. Once again I'm not against guns, I've owned them and I want to get another bc I have some wanna be thug fucks living across the street a d we've have problems with them. I'm against violent offenders and people with certain mental illnesses to not be able to legally own a gun. Like it is now. Just with bullshit like the equal force law to be dropped.

That's strange because the wild wild west era did not even last 100 years sooooo how you get that number ????

NC has stupid laws, In my state if you gain entry to the house by force I get to ventilate yer ass. You could be carrying a barbie doll and your gonna get lead seasoning.

Apparently they figured out that someone breaking into your home wasn't doing it because they really really want to be best friends.

You COULD always play stupid and SAY that you THOUGHT the other person had a gun, works for the police all the time.
