healthcare is subsidized up to 400% of poverty. that means a single person making $50k a year is about the cutoff for subsidies.

you're only going to get "free" health care (medicaid) up to about 150% of poverty (or 125%, something like that).
above that on up to 400% of poverty, you are subsidized to the point that your health care insurance can not cost more than X% of your income, X being something like 2-5%. in the end, you will pay less.
no drug testing, either. despite the protestations of certain whiney pussies and sad little fucks like the OP.

Healthcare is not a right. The government has chosen to confiscate money from me to subsidize healthcare for other people on top of the taxes I already pay for emergency room coverage.
Now they use the excuse that healthcare is universal to compel me to pay fines if I dont choose to do exactly what they want me to do. Smokers are only one of the examples there will be many more to come.

If you are on medicare, or any government assistance like food stamps, wica, you are exempt from fines from not having health insurance. Basically anyone who is in that category. No jailings ever, comprehension UB, comprehension.

Private companies do worse. You can spend your whole life giving to them and then need them once, and just because they don't want to give the money, they will jump through hoops to do anything they can in order to not write a cheque.

At least with health care (in Canada at least) It's guaranteed help if you get lung cancer and are a smoker. I pay into it, I better get help when I need it. Otherwise I might as well just keep my goddamn money and open a high interest saving account with low penalty withdrawls.
