DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

Sorry to bug but im about to flower my BlueWalker (blue dream x skywalker). I was going to use b'cuzz Bloom but now see that it is organic. I had some root rot and got it under control, but I know it is an ongoing battle and seems to be coming back. I remember reading that you shouldnt use any organic nutes with the tea, and also no enzymes. Would the b'cuzz Bloom fall under this category? and if so what is a good replacement? My partner has done things his way for a long time with success, but dealing with root rot may require me to step in and suggest different products.

Were also using multi-zen with the A&B. Will that counter-effect the tea?

I would personally never use organics in dwc, makes the system a lot more complex then it needs to be. Stick with a synthetic nutrient solution such as AN or GH nutrients.. or any hydroponic based lineup plus the tea. Shouldnt do any harm once u get everything going.

Bcuzz can trigger and exasperate a slime problem, however it can be used once disease is totally gone and the roots are robust again, with caution and along side tea treatments. A properly treated res can handle some light organics, but full on organic additives will probably cause slime. I am not familiar with your nute line. You will want to avoid an enzyme product, a sterilizing product, and anything organic. You may need to switch at least until you get things under control.

I have been using your tea for a week now, and things are starting to look very promising, root growth is taking off

I'm thinking of adopting your cloning method on page 69, but had a few questions. First, how do you get the cup to stay above the water pump without flying off? Next, how high do you keep the water level relative to the stem of the cutting? And finally, you say you just use the tea, no other rooting agents with 100% success rate (which is amazing). Do you recommend against dipping the cut in some replicator, or olivias, or could it help?

My cup is wedged onto the pump, but if I had to I would use a spot of hot glue while things are dry. I keep the stem no more than 3 inches in the water and no less than one. Replicator is thin so it will easily wash off and it has no hormones, so it is basically useless in that setup. Thicker gels take longer to rinse away, so they do transfer some of their hormones and speed up rooting. Nothing wrong with using them.

My gf doesn't want to let the 'aero' cloner go to waste, so I will try using it with just water, some tea, and maybe a touch of clonex. It's a simple diy cloner with a water pump and some 360 degree misters, nothing high pressure.

hey mr. heisenberg i have ordered the things you said to get to make the microbe tea. I have a (d.i.y budslingers 4 plant rdwc system) and one out of my 4 plants died on me the other day so when i looked under the sick plant bucket the roots were brown and just about all dead so when i pulled on them they just came off.Gladly the other 3 plants are looking fine so far and growing good but i wanted to know should i just make the tea just incase the other 3 start to turn brown on me. i thought at first it was from the nutrients i am using which is foxfarm but i found out it was not from the wormcasting in it at all. My system is running a cool 68 degrees using a chiller,my ph is 5.8 and my ppms are at 400 so i don't know what could have caused this but i wanted to know will it hurt to just make some tea and use it just to keep things in check like you said maybe a cup every 10 gallons to be safe on the other 3 .

Just wanted to share my expierence using the tea. I had a very bad brown slime problem, so bad that if i washed the roots, in 6 hours it looked like i never cleaned them off. Made a batch of tea using the original mixture and it totally stopped the slime and root growth exploded. The roots are white and very health looking now. the tea saved the day for me. hats off to heisenberg

plant success and botanicare sweet brew 48 hrs then add 1 cup to a gallon
does this sound correct? i don't have ewc at hand

The tea works great as a preventative and should do well in your system. GL.

Yea you'll be fine to use that but use a little molasses too.

Root rot and slime are different but the tea cures both. However, in the case of root rot you must also correct the conditions which caused it, which is normally low oxygen in the root zone.

Revive sounds like another AN scam, but you can try using it after a couple tea treatments. If it causes a buildup on the roots just stop using it and the tea will fix things.

I use the original recipe in a 5 gal bucket but only have 2 airstones will that suffice? Also Ive been using the big scoop for the zho powder but just read on here the right dosage is the small side. just to clear up is this true?

And lastly is there any situation in which the tea would make your plants worse?

Im currently using dwc system and want to add the tea to my system. ive purchased tarantula powder and piranha powder and going to try to brew some tea. my base nutrients are vitalink soft water A+B and i want to make sure that the tea will still work with those as my base nutrients i.e they wont kill my bennies will they. thanks for you help

Hello, I have applied your tea twice now....the 24 hour brew went in 2 days ago and the 48 hour tea went in yesterday - after the 24 hour tea i started to see new white - hairy or spiked roots shooting from high in the net and from the bottom, some of the new root growth has already grown from the bottom 3-4".... i see sections on the plant that are turning bright green light they are trying to start to grow new growth, but they will still wilt fairly easily, i am feeding and water with foilar spray, overall they appear healthy, they are only 10" tall, was just getting ready to launch another 8 weeks, been rdwc for 3 years same water, same system, never even scrubbed between grows..anyywayyss...aside from the new white roots shooting, i still have "muddy" or brown-dirty roots....im only running tea, no nutes....when i tug on the dirty sections the roots break right off...i have not tried to tug on the new white growth obviously. . how long can i expect the dirty sections to be brittle? OR will i eventually lose all of that dirty stuff? After turning the corner and losing a lot of the dead matter, do you recommend a couple of changes every couple of days all with a new batch of tea? just to minimize the matter in the tubs and res? Or do you have some other sort of system to clean the matter out while you wait 7-14 days for a traditional scheduled res change? Assuming the tea was able to win the war and i turn the corner, how long til you recomend flower? Not how long til I can flower, but how long til it would be wise to?

I use the small side, 1 scoop per gallon. I am not aware of any situation where bennies would make a plant worse, as long as proper res maintenance is observed.

Any unsulphured molasses will do. Sulfur discourages fungus growth.

No nutrient line should kill bennies, just don't add any sterilizing agents. Organic products with hormones and vitamins often aggravate slime, but can probably be used once microbe colonies are established. I regret to inform you though, AN microbe products tend to make slime problems worse. This happens if you add them directly to the res. You may be able to use them in a tea brew and be okay. No one I know has taken the chance. Voodoo juice is okay, although the price is about 10x beyond any justification. Take them back if you can, and get anything else with bacillus, glomus and trichoderma.

Ideally you would remove dying roots by spraying them over the sink. If this isn't possible you can just wait for the bennies to eat them. The new growth will continue and eventually engulf the old mucky areas. The brown spot will stay around for a long time but diminish and become benign. As long as you see new growth you are on track.

I personally would wait until I saw healthy growth both up top and below, and then at that point give them another two weeks to establish themselves. If you fear they will be too big, just cut them back a little. You could do it sooner if you are pressed, as long as the slime has been dealt with.

Im afraid i cant take them back however i looked into the products extensively and they do contain alot of what was listed only problem im having is with ancirnt forest. i can find it in the uk. What would you say is a good substitute. Also my roots aint badly affected i would say its a very mild case not sure if that means anything.

I have a hard time understanding why a batch of tea cannot be used to make the next batch. If all these bennies are multplying and diversifying at their own rate and without any monitoring or control by you, then why are you worried about re-using castings or the bottom of an old batch of tea? the bennies are aging to 72 hours and beyond in the res so i cannot see this as a negative while brewing the tea....how is their a loss of diversity or an out of whack ration? is this a non issue?
