Don't you LOVE Google sketchup! I do. Nice thread scribin'.
Yes siree! Google will rule the world one day! :)

Hey gamber, looks like we've all been busy , sorry to hear about the girls.
youre not the only one with environmental difficulties im currently running at 24 degrees centrigrade and 47 RH :( i think the air temp and humidity takes some practise to get just right. At least youre keeping a sharp eye on it and makeing changes where neccesary, i think its the only way to truly learn :bigjoint:

as far as your varying plant health i can tell you plants do differently in various environments some like more heat some like less, likewise for moisture and nutrients. if you get any more plants try and get ones similar to the ones doing well in your garden at the moment, just a suggestion i might be wrong but iv geeked out thoroughly on the topic of my favorite thing ... WEED :bigjoint:
Well let's keep together on this. Now that my water temps are in check (it can be 100* in the cab and nothing will touch water temps now. :bigjoint: So now to do something about humidity. See next post for updates on the girls.

Hey js,
You're right, it has been exciting over there. You've got a lot to do with the different strains and all. It would be too complicated for me to keep straight, I think.
You're doin a helluva job staying on top of it and, as usual, always come up with great ideas.
Things are much more laid back here for right now. We're just coasting along through flowering and should start some new seeds very soon.
Keep up the excellent work bro!!
Thanks bro. At this point it's hard to tell difference in strain or in fact if there is a problem between cabinet and stool (who sits on the stool?) :) That first night disaster had a big impact on these girls. Hopefully as I fix my screw ups, things will settle down. :)

Been busy trying to get water temps down and so got my new rez in place. Still have to tape the other up but now I can have different nute solutions going.

Since the girls are all at different stages Monday's water change put them all back in pH water.

Wednesday night I built my cooler prototype. I did another water change and put everyone back in new pH water until I can get a second rez put together. Larry OG and Kandy Kush are taking off like crazy and I want to get them into some Veg Nutes soon but I don't think the others can handle nutes yet so I'll be patient. I did put in a little bit of H2O2 (3%) to hopefully kill off any bad stuff in the roots.

Otherwise for the rest of the week I continued making adjustments to the cabinet.

Friday night I went back out and bought 2 more clones (I just have this need to keep juggling). I bought a second Purple Extreme (it looks so tasty and I want to give it rightful chance). I also am gonna try out the Cherry AK47. These are all Indica dominant strains.

To get my new clones off and running I set up a quick and dirty rez out of a small container and added full strength rooting nutes (using the TechnaFlora recipe) and kept the netpots just over an inch from the top of the water (see I do learn).

By Saturday night, the water in the small rez hit 79*! So I knew Sunday I'd be busy with the second rez. I just had to keep putting ice bottles in the small rez to keep things at 72*.

Sunday I built the completed version of my new reservoir, tape and all. The plan was to keep Larry and KK (no water change) in the same rez and move the rest over to the new res with all new rooting nutes. (That's why the lids are swapped for now). Larry and KK are now in 2/3 strength Veg nutes and the rest in Rooting nutes.

Even with the browning roots Larry OG and KK are both literally perfect! Green tips with new growth coming out of every node. Any ideas why they are thriving so well compared to the others?

Skunks roots are dying. However, there is still a bit of green leaf so maybe I'll see some new roots coming out out of the rockwool soon (but I'm not hopeful).

Believe it or not, DJs Blueberry has about 7 new white beefy roots coming out and they should actually touch water by tonight! If she takes off over the next few days I'll move her over to the Veg rez.

Here are the latest pics.

Just before switching everyone around. Left (off pic) is the temporary clone rez. Middle is Wednesday's model and on the right the new model.

After the switch. I'll probably move things around tonight.

Hey jsgam. Great lookin cab man. Scribed keep up the good work. I've had similar probs with my rh in the past & I'll tell u what worked for me. Fill a small bowl with water and place it in front of one of your fans. The moving air will help evaporate the water and mix into the air. Hope this helps.

Hey gamber, looking good. Didnt know you were doing a blueberry. she looks nice and im very interested to see how she does as my girls are all half blueberry :bigjoint: your plants seem to be recovering well, and i highly agree with you on the duct tape it just falls off anything thats warm :( (ie my ducting). i hope your res is behaving itself now. Also i notice you keep running off to buy Special water- its gna cost you in the long run, just fill a bucket with water and leave it exposed to open air, and chlorine in the water will evaporate within 24 hours and it will be 100% ok to dump into your res.

Much Love

That Blueberry is surviving no matter what bad shit I throw at her. :fire: But she's is recovering well with a whole new outcropping of roots so she should be fine.

The rez's are working very well. I have to finish taping up the other one but they are doing their jobs.

I have a working humidifier!!! I couldn't find my camera this morning to take pics of my new invention so I'll have to do that later tonight. It raised the humidity up to 55% from 45% as long as I don't exhaust it all out. Now I'm gonna have to start getting my fan controllers out and find that balance of heat vs. humidity.

The water is again experimenting. Out of the tap my water is 8.1pH and 300ppm. And the stuff from the store is 6.1ph and 0ppm. I actually bought a Rubbermaid 30gal trash container to fill up and run a big air stone in to keep me in quick access water. I just haven't found a good place to keep it yet. I've also been reading that even the chlorine isn't all that bad and even helps to kill off pathogens until it evaporates out of the res.

Lot's of different views on the subject. But as long as the plants are healthy, I'm happy. :)

Hey guys,
A litttle chlorine is not the end of the world IMHO. I have been using it for years outside. I believe it can kill organisms (good as well as bad) but they are replenished outside.
So it may kill some of the desirable organisms in your medium. I wouldn't use it all the time but a little won't hurt. :peace:

Welcome! Stick around. It's getting exciting again. :)

hey gamber, long time no post :bigjoint: whats going down in gamber town ? how are your plants pulling through ? i'v updated my thread a few times swing by and tell me what you think :D
Hey SS,

Man last week was crazy! While I'm trying to get my water temps under control, my refrigerator decided it was time to stop working. Turns out it needed a new evaporative cooling fan which blows up into the refrigerator portion. Was living out of ice chests for a few days waiting for the parts to come through FedEx. Then for the last 5 days I've been trying to figure out why my backyard keeps getting flooded. It was looking like it was coming up from the bottom underneath the foundation. As it turns out, the neighbors sprinklers come on in the middle of the night and they have a broken sprinkler head, causing water to run UNDER my house and puddle up in the back. I must have dug up at least 3 cu yds of clay and hard packed sand trying to find the problem so my back, arms and hands are WORKED.

Regarding the grow, the past few days have been crazy. Larry OG is getting ready to hit the top of the cabinet so I need to get set up for cloning which means I need to get my flower chambers set up. I've got pics and all so I'll get those up soon.

I'm moving the mother/clone chamber up to the top from a suggestion that heat rises and I want to keep flowering cool. Last night I was able to get the "shell" built for the chamber, meaning Mylar, light and cool tube and get everything move up. Still need to move doors up and redo some wiring and plumbing. I have to say it looks pretty cool looking up at the top chamber all decked out on top. I can't wait to have all 3 chambers blazing away!

I finally lost Skunk so that makes two losses. But the 3 other originals plus the two newbies are hanging in there and looking good. Water temps 66-69*, Air temps 75-80*, RH 50-57%. Last water change was a week ago Friday so it's time. :)

More later.

Here are the pics I keep promising. We are pretty much caught up with the story from the grow side but check out what's happening over at the Cabinet Journal.

From 5/4: Clockwise from top left Skunk (RIP), Cherry AK-47, Purple Extreme (II), DJ's Blueberry (nursing back).
CIMG0052.jpg

Larry OG looking good as usual.

Kandy Kush looking good too.

Larry OG
CIMG0071.jpg

Larry OG and KK roots. KK's root aren't looking very good and I think it's why KK has stopped growing. Larry OG has brown roots also but has much more white healthy looking roots. However, KK (recently) has lots and lots of new white roots just hitting water right now and I've noticed more vitality in her.
CIMG0072.jpg

DJ's Blueberry is now coming along nicely with a whole new crop of white roots and 1 1/2" of all new growth. Now that she's a bit stronger I have trimmed her up a bit removing the dry dead leaves.
CIMG0066.jpg

Skunks final moments on Earth. At least I gave her a fighting chance.
CIMG0067.jpg

Purple Extreme (II). I'm not sure what the deal is with the yellow leaves. But all the other clones are thriving so I'm not sure. But she is recovering as well and is getting new green growth.
CIMG0068.jpg

Cherry AK-47. Nothing to worry about here, and it's still true.
CIMG0069.jpg

So for the last week, other than the work on the cabinet, I haven't done really anything to the plants except look in on them. Purple Extreme (II) was either going to make it under the conditions she had or not. She's pulling through on her own so sometimes patience is a good thing (yeah you could say lazy) :)

I hope this satisfies your craving for variety.

Okay it's Friday evening and it's time to do some plant maintenance. Ok, just before plant maintenance, I went ahead and finished taping up the second rez...ain't it purdy? :)

At this point we have 5 purchased clones.

Larry OG will become a mum tonight as she has finally hit the top of the cab and started doing a 90* turn. We'll be taking a few clones.

Kandy Kush is not showing much upward growth but remains healthy and bushy. I think she suffered from some sort of root shock from my first night fiasco. However a whole new set of white roots are mm's from hitting water and already I see lot's of brand new growth. Let's hope she gains some length soon.

DJ's Blueberry will survive. She has tons of new roots all in the water and about 2 new nodes of brand new growth plus her older nodes are re-sprouting. I just need to set up another space in the "big girls" room. :)

Lastly Cherry AK-47 and Purple Extreme (II) are busy getting roots to water so no real change for them.

First off water change. Larry OG and Kandy Kush are getting 75% strength vegging nutes and the 3 others will have to stay in pH neutral along with the new clones until I get a new rez put together.

So now for some pics:

Kandy Kush
CIMG0087.jpg

Larry OG. Remember Kandy Kush (left) came home the same day as Larry OG!!!!
CIMG0085.jpg

A rejuvinated DJ's Blueberry. I trimmed off most of the dead stuff. I didn't want to do any major trimming until she was stable again. Note the light green leaves (new) on top as well as the new growth on the lower nodes. Just minutes before I couldn't see the little growth until I trimmed away all the dead brown leaves...a pleasant surprise!
CIMG0088.jpg

Cherry AK-47
CIMG0089.jpg

Purple Extreme(II) (the II is for my second clone...the first didn't make it :( )
CIMG0091.jpg

Cloning time!!! The next 3 shots are my cut points. First cut was the top, second was a middle branch and the third a bottom branch. I had a tray of pH water standing by and placed each cutting in the water. With the end under water I made a clean 45* cut, scraped back the skin for about an inch, dipped it in cloning gel and straight to the neoprene disk. That's it! Hopefully my cuts were in the right place because I didn't go back and verify.
CIMG0092.jpg
CIMG0094.jpg
CIMG0095.jpg

Okay may this just seemed funny to me. The 3 new clones are almost twice as big as the ones I bought a few weeks ago! Maybe I should think about going into the cloning business and screw flowering!!! hahahahahahaha

Here's the group shot of the "little ones." :)
CIMG0098.jpg

And Larry OG after her haircut.
CIMG0099.jpg

Saturday morning I was a bit freaked out when I got up and all 3 new clones were laying down. They were under a humidity dome and I thought I may have overdone the humidity so I pulled off the dome to see if that would help and by the afternoon they looked worse. I went ahead, put the dome back over and figured there's nothing more to do since all other conditions are normal.

And to catch you up completely here are the clones as of Monday morning (today). Still a bit droopy but definitely perking up. No yellow leaves or other signs of unhealthyness so we'll just leave them be. :) No root buds yet but I'm looking! I expect either tonight or tomorrow night. By the way, I'm not using Hydroton; just the neoprene disks so the stem is hanging out au natural getting splattered with bubbles. The water level is 2" below the bottom of the netpots and the netpots are misty all the way to the top. In the big girls rez, I have the water level around 3 1/2" to 4" below the bottom of the netpots. Gotta make those roots work for their food. My mom used to have a sign in her garden with two words on it..."GROW DAMMIT!" :D

Hey gamber, good to see uv recovered and things are moving forward again (i was worried for a while). larry looks like shes going to get huge in the next few weeks :bigjoint:

Clones also looking nice hope to see some fat buds in the coming months :D +rep for bringin it back !

amazing setup, i want to set up the same thing. right now i have two plants in a metal cabinet with a floor space of 16.5" x 36" how many plants do you think i could fit if i used it as a single flowering room ( one chamber for now, later i want to split it as it is about 6 feet tall)

Welcome to the grow! Let's say I'm a god apprentice. I kill more than I save so I have a loooong way to go.

I'm using airstones like the one pointed to here except they are gray and from my local hydro shop. I have two of these stones per rez (16" x 10" in 3 - 4" of water) and they litterally make the rez boil (see pic below). In fact they work too good for my clones as you'll see in a bit. So basically even if they were both pushed into a corner, everything still get's wet. ;) I still believe that the brown mushy roots were heat related.

Recovery is a "cyclical" process for me. ;) I haven't had much luck with clones (they keep turning to compost!) but hopefully I'm on the right track. Larry OG keeps trying to grow out of the cabinet so I have lot's of stock to work with. Kandy Kush has finally taken off and I have taken a cutting from her as well. I'll update below.

Welcome silasx! Go for it! Each of my chambers is 36" high and 48" wide. Each chamber can hold up to 3 reservoirs (in my configuration). I've been making custom lids which are "interchangeable". One rez can hold up to 8 mothers 3 feet tall using 3" netpots. Even though they will be crowded together, I'm not concerned since I'll be pruning them every 1-2 weeks to harvest cuttings until they get replaced by another clone so the mothers will never be taller than 36". My clone rez has 24 2" netpot spaces in the lid. As far as flowering, I'm going to start with one plant per rez to see how well it fills the screen in one of my Mini ScrOG's. That means I can have up to six different plants in different stages of flowering. If I don't get the screen density I want, then I'll go to two plants per rez. Remember, I'm growing perpetual so I don't plan on switching out lights when my plants get to different stages, they just get moved to a different area.

So how do you plan to grow? If you are SOG, then you will have tall plants making it hard to split your cabinet. If you are ScrOG, you have a better chance of controlling plant height by reducing veg time and going straight to flower from clone. If you have a grow journal going, point us to it and we can help you out collectively.

Hey gamber....clones clones clones ? how DID they do ???
Let's say it's a learning process....more to come.
