That's because engineers don't want to run the companies, too much paperwork.

GM and Ford are dumping quite a few of these brands and scaling down their model line quite a bit. IMO the auto bailouts are silly that money should have gone to unemployment and re-education benefits for the out of work factory employees. GM and Ford are still very much alive, GM is even planning on manufacturing a new electric under the Chevy brand.

I agree that american cars are not what they used to be but I also believe that will change fast with hard times. Obama is not letting up either his new emission standards will require some innovation and re-tooling.

The only reason Detroit cars have been improved at all is because other countries cars put them to shame. If in the 70's the Govt. had barred Japanese cars from being sold in the US we'd all still be driving Impala's and Oldsmoblie's. They only seem to get off their union asses when they get their heads handed to them by small foreign people.

They made their bed, I should not have to lie there with them....

I don't go by anecdotal evidence if that's what you mean. It's pretty obvious that Detroit had their heads handed to them by imports over the last thirty years.

I agree, I don't think Jax could tell a carburetor from a tool softener. I'm still trying to get the front strut rods un frozen on my deuce, Got one to budge a little, they are really stuck. Once I can set up my front end, I'm going to get it registered, then add the frame bars and rear traction controllers and head for the strip. I'm hoping for 11s, I know 12s wont be a problem.

Well, let's see... I have a 250, a 350, a toyota, 6 wheeler atv, airboat, tractor. Nope...don't know a thing.

No carb's tho...no junkers either, which tend to be the same thing.

Yeah and I'll bet you also have a mechanic to fix all your toys. Like I said, you dont know a carburetor from a tool softener.

I'm not sure if you have a newer model auto, but they are designed NOT to be worked on at home. There is very little that can be done to them other than fluids, batteries, etc...

and all the newer models have chrome plated muffler bearings...they don't even make a tool for that....

My wife wanted the Toy and I relented...I was pushing for the new VW GTI diesel...awesome car (US made? :lol:). So the judges are out on the Toy so far. As for the diesel trucks...heck they never break down...that's why I drop 40k on them a pop...:lol: I literally gave away my 95 350 with 378k miles on it to one of my mexican friends...it's still kicking hell in Mehico right now on their farm :mrgreen:

If I need to work on a car to keep it running...I just get a new one. My time is far too valuable to waste on being a grease monkey. Not that I don't know how...I choose not to.


And no, I don't watch crashcar left turn racing. Formula 1 is the ticket if I'm going to watch a race, and then only in person, never on TV. We're back to wasting time again...

I'd rather be trading...:lol:
