That ought to raise a shitstorm with the righties on board. Vote union and become a partner in the profit, get paid a living wage, have benefits like medical and retirement, paid vacations. Get perks like owners and managers, feel human, not slavelike. That's always been my contention. Pay a man a days wages for a days work and then demand a days work. I always worked union and always gave a days work.

Yes, Unionize everything...that will make us competitive

Ever wonder why we import so much that USED to be made here? Unions....

Ever wonder why the US import car industry cleans Detroits clock year after year? Unions...

Shall I continue...I can go on all day...

The greatest rewards go to those who takes the risk...not to those who merely show up looking for a job.

cool...so you would be in favor of s. korea building a hyundia plant here and paying the workers a buck an hour and 16 hour days??

Since No one would show up to work for a dollar an hour...it's a moot point.

It's what the market will bear.....unions disconnect that equation, which is why they cannot compete. Go talk to those fellas working in tenn. and ky. on import cars...they feel LUCKY to work there....

Uhhhh, I'd rather suppose greed would describe that dillema. Like Papa made a deal with the chinese to make the product for 1/10th the price, then bought his son a big boat to ship the products here, then bought the other son a trucking line to distribute the products and kept it all in the family, while chinese kids make 25 cents an hour and 5,000 union workers get layed off here in the good old USA. Runaway capitalism with a greed rider attached!

The idea that all of the vitriol is directed toward workers as the cause of the problem is simply laughable. A non-profitable, failing company is a non-profitable failing company no matter what it’s employee pay structure is like. But I find it interesting that nobody seems to be directing any hatred or anger toward the rate of pay of CEOs and executives who don’t produce anything, but collect a very hansom salary on the backs of workers who actually do the work. The average salary of CEOs is now more than 821 times that of minimum wage workers and more than 262 times that of the average worker (both unionized and non-unionized). But yeah, the problem is the workers.

I certainly don't blame the workers...I do blame the unions however which are parasitic in nature.
I certainly would NEVER work for a union since any of my hard work would not be rewarded any more than a lazy lay about working next to me. This is the intractable flaw with union jobs. Detroit would never need a bailout if they had catapulted the unions years ago.

I do however hold more value to the person who invents the assembly line than those who work on it. That equation only runs one way.

When I want in a share in the profits of a corporation I purchase shares in that corporation instead of demanding that I get more pay, and more benefits for the same amount of work.

If the unions spent the millions that they pay to bribe Democrats purchasing shares in American Corporations then the Unions would be able to use their accumulated shares and the dividends that they receive to issue monetary distributions to their members.

The bottom line of course is that UNIONS ARE RAN BY IDIOTS, FOR IDIOTS.

The Unions are the workers Jax . . . you can't not blame the workers and then blame the Unions.
These are the issues of Globalization, I don't see International Labor law standards being enacted anytime soon.

since I live in tenn about 6 miles from the nissan plant and 27 miles from GM plant, I know several folks that work at both plants. the people at nissan make more than the guys at the traverse plant. what's your point?

My point is there is a 38 dollar PER HOUR difference between union and non union auto jobs....making union cars inherently more expensive to purchase...it's self defeating.

More unions mean being LESS competitive in the market...any market.

Actually Toyota factories payed their workers HIGHER than UAW factories for the past three years. They also give their employees profit sharing, don't see them asking for bailout either . . . .

Honda was on par with UAW factories as well.

Unions have not made US auto manufacturers less competitive, poor CEO management and greed has.

Ignoring the benefits package that the UAW has are you?

And all the retired people that the Big Three are forced to support because of the unions?

Though no one is disputing that management fucked up by playing ball with the unions instead of reaching a more logical point where the long term interests of the company was balanced against the short term interests of the unions.

Though the unions are still idiotic. Instead of insisting on more and more pay and ruining the profitability of the company they could have been using the union dues to purchase shares in the Big three for their employees, and thus achieving a symbiotic relationship with the Big three instead of a parasitic relationship.

you are so full of shit....do you have a 401k? does your company match your share? the problem is, you look down on people that work at the auto factory. you think because you set in some piddle de fuck office all day long, licking somebodies ass. you think you are higher class. you know what's funny? they look at you the same way.........

There may be discrepencies between plants but the AVERAGE difference between union and non union auto plants is 38 bucks...not sustainable.

unions will only hamper our recovery, not help it. It is becoming clear that Obama either doesn't know how to help us or he doesn't want to. Either scenario will end our republic if it continues unabated for four years.

By the way, don't ask me for money when that time comes...

Did you ssee where more military officers want to see his birth certificate?
It is still possible to get him out of the game on a technical foul. If Obama could have put this to rest, he would have done so by now, which means........

and after nissan has been here long enough to have a bunch of retirees, it will be different how??

The packages will be bundled quite differently...because the unions will not be there to dictate outrageous benefits.

as we speak Detroit has to add about 3800 bucks to EVERY car it MAKES (not sells) to pay for 178000 pensioners. That's a hole of which one needs a VERY BIG shovel to get out of.
