It works well. It’s a good way to get rid of purple stems and leaf discolouration that lots of people get when vegging with led lights.

Interesting. I’m still curious how this works more specifically how it’s beneficial for veg growth. There is a lot of conflicting information on this topic. In my mind it sorta makes sense just not sure if so on the small scale.

I'm doing this veg cycle and 6/18 in flower this round. I've only seen benefits in veg so far with stouter growth and more new shoots forming.

You get a plant that's easier to manage since the response from changing the light cycles won't be as drastic since the plant is not used to 18/6.

You get more controlled and manageable stretch, it's the optimal thing to do with long flowering plants with long internodes in my book. Flowering time is also shortened with longer light deprivation.

I'm curious to see what they do when I flip them in a week or two! So far it's been a good learning curve since I expected a different plant response, kinda the other way around with longer internodes and more stretch. You live and learn as long as you try new things.

It's all about the darkness time. By not giving 12 hours darkness to your plants, you can keep your plants in veg.

Would never grow with any other light schedule other than GLR, anything else is just a waste of electricity/money.

Im set at 18/6 rn but will prolly change it to glr as i have nothing to lose and would like to try it out. So far responses are all positive. Very interesting indeed. I’m surprised this hasn’t gained more traction tbh

This may have already been answered in this thread, but is GLR okay for rooting clones/cuttings? Anyone tried it and noticed a difference between GLR and 18+ hours of light when it comes to how long or how effectively cuttings will root?

I'm considering switching to GLR for my mother/veg/seedling space, but I also use that space for cloning. I suppose I could always just bypass the timer whenever I'm cloning, and switch back once the cuttings have rooted...?

I’ve even used this method with a timer and Christmas lights strung around the plants.. works well if your trying to keep your plants in veg longer as nights shorten.

There's no point! Plus, using the GLR allows me to use an HID setup (if I choose) that will rival even the most efficient LED fixtures running at 18/6. The plants absolutely love this schedule.

It's SO simple when you flip to flower....You just remove that one hour 'on' and, voila, you're 12/12. The plants seem to explode with growth when you take that hour away, too....because you've been keeping them on the edge of flowering the entire veg. cycle and they are horny to make flowers!

I've noticed shorter internodal length and and as a result more flower sites. Growth rates are more or less the same and as @tstick I'm never going back to 18/6 since there's no point in wasting nutes and energy for almost identical rates of growth with 6 hours less light. I only see benefits at least in veg.

I can't say much about stretch in flower but I'm planning on running 6/18 with even longer lights off period to see what it does to the flower structure and turnover rate. I've had great results with 8/16 in the past from mid to late flower on longer flowering sativa's.

Hard to say since I never grow the same strain twice! My current grow of Tuna Kush has produced the largest fan leaves of anything I've ever grown. I can say is that I was absolutely skeptical about it and then I tried it and the plants loved it. And I am totally happy about being able to use ANY light MUCH more efficiently. It means that my lights are not on nearly as much, thus, increasing the lifespan. It's just a win-win all around, I'd say.

Thx for the info How did 8/16 compare to 12/12 in yield? Assuming you tried with same wattage.

I dont have final say over the grow i consult with but always thought about this; shorter days all the way down to 8 hours in flower, and GLR for veg. Its great to talk to someone running it as the only other person documenting it here on site (that i know of) was torontoke who did it years ago.
Im getting my own grow put together next year once i reclaim my flat and GLR will definitely be on my mind.

Got a wee bit spindly when they poked thru the soil two weeks ago and ran out of the room I saved to compensate.. Light wasn’t low enough..

I’ve been using Joe Pietri’s 12/1 veg and 7/17 for bud since May of 23, I’ll never go back to that dumb 18/6 and 12/12! Everything finishes a little quicker in bud too.

Do you work always with the same genetics? Did you measure any yield loss? Any height/stretch difference in flower? Did you get an idea of how much sooner you got first budset?

Good morning, Rocket Soul. Yeah, the same genetics but also new strains, I’m always growing something new from seed.

The yield is the same when I was doing 12/12. I don’t top my plants under 12/1 veg. They grow more like bushes instead of shooting straight up. Them becoming more bushy/side growth is the first thing I took notice too when I first started 12/1.

In bud everything moves along just a little quicker too. Plants that I would chop on day 56-60, are done anywhere between day 49-54 or so. I have a Vintage Funk on day 52 this morning and I could have easily cut her down 2 or 3 days ago. I found 7 hours on is the sweet spot for me.

The flowering 11/13 schedule reduced by 30 mins every 2 weeks until harvest is highly advised too.
