Judge scolds defense for dragging out questioning

Judge Arthur Engoron scolded defense attorneys for dragging out their cross-examination of former President Trump’s ex-accountant by repeating the same questions.

Jesus Suarez, the attorney cross-examining Donald Bender, repeatedly asked the same question pertaining to the accountant’s work on Trump’s taxes over each year, drawing a rebuke from the judge.

Trump’s defense team objected to the judge’s order, citing the “extraordinary” relief the New York attorney general is seeking.

“They’re trying to lump together all years,” Chris Kise, Trump’s attorney, said of the attorney general’s case.

He added that different people have different responsibilities each year. Engoron told the defense counsel that they could ask the witness about “every year” but not “year-by-year.”

“What’s the difference? Jesus,” Engoron said, rolling his eyes.

Minutes later, as defense continued to ask the same questions, Engoron stopped questioning again.

“I don't talk just to hear myself,” he said. “You seem to be doing the exact same thing.”

Defense counsel again pushed back, accusing the judge of not allowing them to make their defense.

The judge said they have had “plenty of time” to defend themselves, and both Kise and Alina Habba said they disagreed. Trump shook his head vigorously.

“This is ridiculous,” Engoron said, pounding the bench. “For the press, I'm pounding the bench again. This is ridiculous.”

“I have a thick skin, but it’s really being pierced here,” Engoron later said.

New York AG denounces Trump comments as ‘race-baiting’
New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) described former President Trump’s social media attacks against her as “race-baiting” on Wednesday, as Trump faces trial on business fraud charges in New York this week.

Trump has repeatedly called James a “racist” in Truth Social posts about the case. He has also focused attacks against Judge Arthur Engoron and one of his clerks, resulting in a Tuesday gag order that limits what Trump can say publicly about the case.

“Trump’s comments were offensive. They were baseless. They were void of any facts or any evidence,” James said to reporters Wednesday. “What they were, were comments that have unfortunately fomented violence. Comments that I would describe as race-baiting. Comments, unfortunately, that speak to the very bottom of our humanity.”

In a post later Wednesday, Trump again called James “racist” and accused her of prosecutorial malpractice in her case against him.
“This is yet another Witch Hunt for purposes of Election Interference. Letitia is a Dirty Cop who is driving business out of New York in record numbers,” he said. “She should be Impeached for falsification of documents, Mar-a-Lago value being a prime example.”
Wednesday was the third day of the trial against Trump. Prosecutors argue Trump and his adult sons committed business fraud by purposely inflating and deflating the value of their assets to get better deals on loans and insurance.

Engoron ruled last week that Trump did commit fraud, and the trial is set to determine damages.
James on Wednesday defended her decision to bring the case.

“This case was brought simply because it was a case where individuals have engaged in a pattern and practice of fraud. And I will not sit idly by and allow anyone to subvert the law,” she said.

Trump was in the courtroom for the first two days of his trial Monday and Tuesday, but he was not present Wednesday.
“And lastly, I will not be bullied,” James continued. “Mr. Trump is no longer here. The Donald Trump show is over. This was nothing more than a political stunt.”

Kise seems happy. At $2k/hr he has to put in 1,500 hours working for Trump so dragging it out with tedious stupidity pays off for him. If I was Kise I would set a motivational and aspirational reminder to repeat every fifteen minutes that says "$ 500 more, ca-ching!". It could also show time remaining when it gets down to 250 hours, the light at the end of the tunnel. A civil trial of this nature seems a lot easier than the criminal trials. He could raise his hourly rate once Trump has wiped out the $3 M retainer.

I've heard he already has 5 million.

Allen Weisselberg, Chief Financial Officer of the Trump Organization claims he doesn't know what GAAP actually means. Likewise, Junior Trump, boasting about his attendance at Warton, laughs about knowing what GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) stands for, but not learning anything about it. The Whoreton School must be proud. Oh, and dumdum Eric just can't remember a thing.

someone should sue him to return every last dollar that he unlawfully skimmed from campaign fundraising to those PACs. Using money that was donated expressly to fund his election campaign for legal fees is theft and fraud.
Read the fine print tucked away at the bottom of the page. Did they stop with the prechecked check boxes to clean out their bank accounts weekly?

Consider it a moron tax, not really fraud, seriously your honor, how stupid would you have to be to fall for it! I mean only republicans were harmed; they would have gotten the money if my client didn't...

Judge orders closer scrutiny of Trump’s assets amid New York fraud trial
The judge overseeing former President Trump’s fraud trial in New York Thursday issued an order barring Trump or any other defendants in the sweeping case from transferring any assets or creating a new entity to acquire them without disclosure first.

The order, which came via the case’s online docket, was delivered on the fourth day of the trial, which was prompted after Judge Arthur Engoron found Trump liable for fraud, ruling that New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) had proved the crux of her case. As part of that decision, Engoron ordered the selection of an independent monitor of Trump’s businesses.

On Thursday, Engoron said that appointed monitor — former Judge Barbara Jones — must be informed if the defendants intend to move their assets or create a new entity that isn’t a defendant in the case to acquire them.

The order also dictated that Jones must be informed of any application for a new business certificate in any jurisdiction, any anticipated distribution or assignment of rights from Trump’s entities, any modifications to existing contracts and any disclosures to third parties related to the transfer or cancellation of business certificates.

Though the order was not discussed in the courtroom Thursday, it implies that the judge wants a closer eye on the former president’s assets as his fraud trial, which is expected to last through much of this year, is ongoing.

The trial centers on an investigation of Trump’s business conduct in which prosecutors say his company illegally inflated property values and sizes in order to secure business loans and insurance policies on better terms.

Trump sat through the first three days of the trial but is not present in the courtroom Thursday. The 2024 GOP primary front-runner has campaign stops planned over the weekend in Iowa and Monday in New Hampshire.

That could mean they could seize his grift money over the election, the receiver owns the server now and as far as any new money is concerned...

They might own the domain names too, so he would have to start from scratch somewhere else. If Trump org owned or controlled shit, the receiver controls it now and he can't move a dime or make a change in anything. He and his two sons live in the businesses and might have few personal assets. Normally in Florida you can protect your personal residence from lawsuits, but Trump lives in a corporate owned country club and that is not protected. Losing his election grift money could leave him as broke as Rudy before going to prison and leaving a trail of screwed lawyers behind him.

It is a grift that you tend to laugh at as opposed to get angry at, I mean it has real victims, but the upside is they would only send the money to the republicans any way. Trump at least will waste it and not use it to elect more republicans, quite the opposite, he is taking money from them and destroying their reputation among patriots and those with brains. Trump basically destroyed the GOP in the most fundamental way possible, he drove out the good people and even the bad ones with brains, while he filled the party with lunatics, nazis and white trash. They in turn are and will vomit up the likes of MTG and Gaetz and a host of miscreants. most of them hopefully unelectable.

The party and its special legal statues make it too valuable for morons to control forever and soon slicker better financed grifters will appear and the more radical ones will be bought off or disposed of. They will become better organized but no better morally and ethically, just more electable, by any means necessary and however much it costs. When one considers how much taxes would increase for special people like Elon if the democrats had clear majorities, one can see the investment in buying politicians is a fantastically good one and worth long odds! So don't expect the republican party to remain in the control of idiots too much longer, the extremely wealthy people who want it back, have plenty of money and will buy democrats as well as republicans and media companies, even social media platforms. Fortunately, they are not the masters of the universe they think they are, they are just human too, though pathologically greedy humans.

It was and is common knowledge and I think Trump and others said something similar. The Kraken lady is gonna cut a deal and plead guilty or she will be found guilty before Christmas. Rudy is in that chain too and he is flat broke, so who pleads and cuts a deal first?

Donald's main wallet has been seized and it looks like Trump org owned the web server and other aspects of his election grifting operation which means the receiver controls it. No wonder Donald is freaking out, the NY case could lead to a financial domino effect, since a receiver controls the majority of his assets, even where he lives. This case in NY will take months to resolve, but it could put Donald in financial trouble before it is settled.

Whistling past the graveyard.

Trump asks judge to throw out Jan. 6 charges with presidential immunity defense

Former President Trump on Wednesday asked a judge to dismiss the whole of the government’s election interference case against him, arguing all his actions leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol are protected by presidential immunity.

“The prosecution does not, and cannot, argue that President Trump’s efforts to ensure election integrity, and to advocate for the same, were outside the scope of his duties. Instead, the prosecution falsely claims that President Trump’s motives were impure — that he purportedly ‘knew’ that the widespread reports of fraud and election irregularities were untrue but sought to address them anyway,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in the motion.

“But as the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and hundreds of years of history and tradition all make clear, the President’s motivations are not for the prosecution or this Court to decide. Rather, where, as here, the President’s actions are within the ambit of his office, he is absolutely immune from prosecution.”
