It's kinda funny, the 14th amendment appears to be a trap for republicans and should disqualify Trump from the general election ballot, aside from his trouble in court, eventual conviction and imminent incarceration. He is leading the republican field by a mile and his base seems impervious to reason or facts and ignoring his many criminal indictments, or they are making him even more popular among the miscreants. It kinda looks like Trump can run in the primaries because the nominee is not a federal office, but he will likely be disqualified for the general election. It might be very useful for the republican party to know this for sure ASAP, but there is a problem. Trump cannot be disqualified from the ballot until he applies in a state to run for president and that won't be until September of 24 and varies from state to state. He can only be challenged when he applies to run, just like the congress people and I figure it will take a week from denial and challenge to get in front of the SCOTUS and a decision will be quickly rendered, they are already thinking about it I'll bet.

If Trump wins the republican nomination, even from a cell, they can't dump him until he is actually disqualified, on the eve of the election, hopefully before the ballots are printed in the states. His appearance on the primary ballot will be challenged and they will probably lose, but the SCOTUS could do them a favor and declare Trump disqualified from the general election based on the evidence presented when they rule on the primaries. Trump should be convicted of multiple felonies by then, some involving J6 and the associated conspiracies.

That's the way I read the upcoming 2024 election, if Trump wins the GOP nomination, he will be a dead man walking anyway as far as the presidency goes and in a cell of some kind by election day where he will be largely muzzled except for visitor's day when Kevin and MTG arrive. I doubt his wife will visit him even once and those family members who don't end up joining him in prison won't visit either. If the republican base doesn't buy that he is a disqualified convicted criminal, the general election voters will.

In the federal case probing former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, prosecutors have turned over 12.8 million documents to the former president’s legal team as part of discovery, prosecutors said Monday.
Trump faces four criminal charges in Washington, D.C., tied to his actions after losing the 2020 election, culminating in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan set a trial date of March 4 in the case — a date strongly objected to by Trump’s legal team, which argued that it would take substantially more time than that to get familiar with discovery and ensure the former president is “adequately represented.”
A quarter of the 12.8 million documents are associated with Trump’s campaign or political action committees that have supported it, according to prosecutor Molly Gaston.
Transcripts of grand jury testimony and accompanying exhibits make up 5 million of the documents, and 3million documents originated from the Secret Service, she said.

But Trump has had “access functionally” to about two-thirds of the total documents, Gaston said. Some 7.8 million documents are from “entities associated with the defendant,” from National Archives documents to open-source material like tweets, Truth Social posts or information made public by the House Jan. 6 committee that investigated the Capitol attack.
The government also produced 47,000 “key documents” to the defense, including an annotated indictment Gaston said is a “road map” to the government’s case.
The government originally proposed a trial date of Jan. 2 in the D.C. case, while defense attorneys suggested an April 2026 date.

Trump attorney John Lauro said going to trial on the government’s timeline would be a “violation of the oath to do justice” due to the “avalanche of information” turned over in discovery.

He said the March 4 date is “inconsistent with President Trump’s right to due process.”
“Mr. Trump is entitled to a defense that is reasonably prepared; it would be a miscarriage of justice if they don’t get that kind of defense,” he said.

“And they’re going to get it,” Chutkan replied. “I intend to ensure he gets it.”

Federal Judge Steve Jones of the Northern District of Georgia is slated to hear requests from the Fulton County defendants who are seeking to move their cases to federal court.

Jones was appointed by former President Obama and was confirmed by the Senate in 2011 in a 90-0 vote. Before serving in federal court, Jones had served as a judge of the 10th Superior Court District of Georgia since 1995.

Jones was born and raised in Athens, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia for both his undergraduate and law degree, which he received in 1987.

Jones will hear from at least five defendants seeking to move their cases, who are among 19 individuals charged with attempting to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia: Mark Meadows, former President Trump’s White House chief of staff; Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official; David Shafer, a fake elector and former Georgia Republican Party chairman; Shawn Still, now a sitting state senator; and Cathy Latham, the then-chairwoman of the Coffee County, Ga., Republican Party.

The judge has already weighed in on the Georgia election case by denying requests from Meadows and Clark to block their arrest in Fulton County last week. The co-defendants had argued that their arrest and state proceedings should be halted as they attempt to move their cases to federal court.

“As Meadows’s arguments and cases cited to the contrary are not persuasive, the Court denies Meadows’s request for the Court to decide its jurisdiction over his criminal case before holding an evidentiary hearing,” Jones ruled in Meadows’s case.

Meadows’s hearing on whether his case will be moved to federal court began Monday morning.

Jones has also made other significant rulings in the state. Just last month, he refused to dismiss lawsuits alleging that Georgia’s congressional and legislative districts illegally discriminate against Black voters, saying that he must hear the facts in a full trial.

He also ruled in 2020 that a six-week abortion ban in the state was unconstitutional, saying that a woman has a “constitutional liberty” to have “some freedom to terminate her pregnancy.”

I gave it a few extra weeks beyond the 8 that is needed to complete a typical trial. There is wiggle room to finish the trial later and still finish before the end of the primary season. But this indictment was written for a speedy trial. It's going to be over by end of April. That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

For crimes like his, the cuffs often go on in court, especially if a long prison sentence is in the cards and he is on pretrial release in other jurisdictions, I think she will hold him in custody pending sentencing, sending him to Georgia and NY as required. Though if Trump continues his present course, he might get locked up pretrial.
