I am just an old hippie. While I know many people nowadays like to pigeonhole other people. Or use identity politics. Ever since Nixon and Watergate I've had a hard time trusting any politician. I believe in a person's rights and their freedom to exercise those rights. That simply makes me an American citizen who wants smaller government and more freedom.

It is common knowledge, read the news and keep up, these procedures have been around for a long time. In a properly functioning WH and even after they serve, people bring them the docs, then take them away and care of them, it is their responsibility. There are protocols, logs and people responsible for tracking them, all they have to do is follow the rules to like Biden did and an underling takes the blame.

I watch the White House Press briefing today. I did not hear anyone even allude to someone else bringing those documents and putting them next to Biden's corvette. His house was not a secure place and those documents never should have been there to begin with nor should they have been in his office on a college campus either. I think people do the average citizen a disservice if they try and push an issue that an assistant did something that the vice president or president did not want them to do. Those documents could only have been there because Biden wanted them there at one point in time.

Ok, the crime is based on mens rea, knowledge and intention are very important. A staffer packed those boxes and someone else moved them to his house. It is my understanding they are zeroing in on that staffer now and they work(ed) at the pentagon. Someone on the staff fucked up, from all available evidence, it was referred to for investigation, not necessarily of Biden. Administrative changes need to be made to procedures and even the law to avoid this in the future and when the special counsel is finished with it the house gets it, after the investigation is complete and any indictments made.

Trump was referred to Jack on two initial matters, the documents and obstruction case, and the J6 investigation, both with a strong prima facie case for indictment.

Illegal online dispensaries are plentiful too and an oz vacuum packed can be mailed as a letter. That is around $130US, gringo dollars a pound. Smoke much?

If my home was searched and I had illegal substances here I would be responsible whether I knew about it or not.

Trump is possibly accountable for classified documents found in his home. Biden is also positively accountable for any and all classified documents found where they were not supposed to be in a place that he possesses or has had possession of. They should both be held to the same standard.

I think typically the government thinks they have immunity Above the Law while only ordinary citizens are held accountable.

Too bad we don't see people with the integrity of Martin Luther King in the government. Mahatma Gandhi was also another person who was proven to be a great leader. None of our current elected officials in the United States are even close to those two people. I think the last great elected official in the United States was Kennedy and he was assassinated.

Have the rules around here changed in the past year? Or is it the way they are enforced and interpreted?
I can understand wanting to move towards a more moderate forum and the admins are removing the trolls, so less effort is required on our part. The experience of other social media platforms might be having an effect and this site is ad supported too. There are ways of making one's point creatively, and while staying inside the rules, but a bit more good will is required and tolerance for other POVs, no matter how misguided or stupid. Trying to talk sense to a Trumper was always a challenge, now more so than ever. If these issues tear apart families over the kitchen table, they can make a mess of a site like this pretty quick.

Wanting smaller government correlates tightly with the sort of libertarian ideology that opens doors to fascism.
It is identifiable by a triad of policy aims:
small government
deregulated markets
low taxes
which, when followed to their logical end, means eliminating social aid to the poor and disabled, freeing corporations to overcharge for everything while preaching the bullshit of trickle-down, and eliminating the republic’s immune system against frankly undemocratic movements like maga, the Klan, and dominionists.

Incompatible with any recognizable hippie ideal. They were about compassion, in stark contrast to libertarians.

I appreciate what you do here I know it has to be a thankless job.

I did it for a year at another site, political section, a lot more allowed than here. It was more right wing-centric, the mods thought it was a good idea to have one 'liberal' on the team as maybe I could give a different perspective. But we did have a line drawn and held people to it, try to treat each other with respect.

I was aware that the rules had not changed and it appears to be an effort at actual TOS enforcement. I support moderation by humans as opposed to algorithms and see no problem with your style. The change was a bit sudden, though announced clearly enough at the top of the thread. Some coming back here after a spell away will notice the changes!
