if you dont like “rich tax breaks” how about rural Americans getting broadband on our tax payers dime, or all those roads that we pay for a few people to use. We are a society like it or not, and sometimes correcting imbalances is necessary. People who had parents get sick, or just were not ready to go to school, or going into lower paying careers like teaching is not a bad investment to help them get out from under this debt.

You guys really have long arms by how far you reach. Broadband and roads are critical infrastructure and needed by everyone in today's world. It is nothing like forgiving a loan someone took out. The fact that the United States is lagging behind in those areas means we need to spend more money on broadband, roads, EV charging stations, etc... That $300+ billion would have been better spent on those things instead of forgiving loans that while an economic inconvenience were taken out knowing full well that they would need to be repaid.

You're insinuation that I "don't know shit" is laughable. I know lots of shit and I can spot it when I see it. This student loan forgiveness is one BIG pile of shit in the same category of shit as tax cut for the wealthy.

How is this different than UBI, the big thing that Yang gang sold itself on? You said you really liked him as an alternative to the far left. To me, UBI was some radical left shit. The furthest over.

Edit: the above is speaking in terms of the moral stand against handouts . I'm pretty in favor for a bunch of economic reasons. The reason I think this (loan forgiveness) isn't the best route is baked into why I back UBI over many other ideas to deal with wealth disparity/inequality. Also why I oppose dramatic raises in the minimum wage.

The problem with many on the left is that they don't realize that they're not much different than the right. They have different political views but more and more they're becoming just as extreme. It's black or white. You're either with us or against us. It's Us vs Them blah blah blah.

People that immediately go for personal attacks and demean because of a difference of opinion are what's wrong these days and it doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum they come from. There used to be a time when there was middle ground but no more. It's either you back us 100% or you're the enemy.

This could have been addressed in a better way. Payment restructuring, interest rate changes, etc... But to just forgive it all is ridiculous. They took out the damn loans. Pay them back like you agreed to when they were given. They signed paperwork saying they agreed to pay back the loans. Whatever happened to people being accountable? Were they too stupid to understand the terms of the loans?

What's really funny about these guys is that even though I voted for Biden, the couple of times that I've disagreed with some of his policies the same characters are all out in force waiting to "Pounce" on the enemy. I knew exactly what would happen and who would be after me with the pitchforks when I stated my opinion. And like clockwork they showed up to give me a proper chastising and admonish me. Some books are easy to predict and know the ending to. These guys never fail to be that book.

I'll wait for the next Biden policy I disagree with and give them some more exercise.

I'm not going to go back and dig through a bunch of posts but if I recall correctly some of the same ones brought out the tar and feathers when I agreed with Biden pulling out of Afghanistan when we did. I supported that policy. I guess they feel that they get to pick and choose which policies to support or not. Anyway, they're all just somebody typing on a keyboard just like myself. Some don't even live in the United States but feel some kind of superiority to those of us that do. I just laugh. I don't need any education from a foreigner about USA politics especially when I can vote and they can't.

Where did you come up with 37K? You have to file taxes if you make more than $12,550 when filing single and are under 65. IDK that’s what I found anyways, I’m not a tax expert.

Even if we went with your 37K/year number almost half of high school graduates pay income tax then and so do some non high school graduates.

I'm not a Libertarian. Libertarians suck just as bad as the rest. I'm an independent. Registered D in Oregon but only because they have closed primaries.

I can find things I agree with in the Democratic party, the Republican party, and even some Libertarian ideals. I'm not stuck on some stupid D, R, or Libertarian bullshit like so many seem to be these days.
