Currently. I am hoping that the reasoning behind states holding their own elections holds up and Trump is gone in January. That was just a idea of how to stop it from happening again. Our government elected officials have lost their right to lie to us.

Right now, Trump sits at 40.3% approval. It declined precipitously after the murder of George Floyd. Just saying there is a lot of ground to cover before Trump can begin to think about a hostile take-over of govt.

He isn't in position to do what you say. I'm not saying he won't try. Portland is his trial balloon for using a law and order type of campaign. I think he's going to get bogged down and egg will be on his face over this by middle of August. His approval numbers will decline even more as a result.
I don't have the false sense of conviction that you do. Still, that's my take on what will happen. I'm worried but optimistic.

But he is good at trolling. Even if he doesn't do it, it is the threat that creates enough chaos for the assholes to slip in and cause violence in these neighborhoods.

All he needs is to create cover for Trump TV to show the violence happening nonstop scaring all those suburban families whose idiot kids are the ones making the messes. This isn't necessarily war by him, but it is defiantly his re-election campaign.

Russia is currently active in a war with us however. Who knows what they have on Trump.

If he rolls this out to other cities, he's not only going to have large and stiff resistance but we'll be treated to yet another round of videos showing his ICE agents beating people only this time with large numbers of black people in the crowd. Also, the targeted cities will be ready for them.

My prediction, and that's all it is, Trump's disapproval numbers will creep up and his approval number will drop if he rolls out his Storm Troopers into other cities. Due to its mostly white demographic and strongly held liberal views, Portland is fairly safe for him to attack. Even so, it doesn't sound as if he's stumbled into a winning strategy. Not from what I'm seeing in mainstream media.

His army of online crazies can use any protests to scare people enough on Fox and hate radio combined with the constant spam of directed internet propaganda to blend in with all the people that are rightly outraged by what is going on.

If he does that, I don't think I could guess at how everything would unfold in a place like Chicago which has for real violent people who live in these communities and have family and friends there.

I hope that Trump is just saber rattling, but it is impossible to know until what happens happens.

I disagree, remember when they made the announcement that they redesigned the CHAZ barricades, there was a news article stating that now 5000 more residents could access their homes by car! That's insane. Regular taxpaying citizens like law and order and hate rioting which decreases their property values (investments) and threatens their business. The silent majority will be swayed to trumps side by the simple enforcement of the law nothing more. People can see that the democrats are more interested in creating an image and protecting individual groups of people (who they claim are so different from normal people they cannot manage to take care of themselves even with many many hands extended to help them, but I don't buy it because I'm not racist) than actually governing and doing what's right for the country and the people as a whole (taking a knee, etc.) Just my 2c.

Over a short time frame they can only nudge. Over long periods of time with little opposition, propaganda has proven to be able to change the mindset of an entire society. Trump has had four years to shift sentiment and it's gone down, not up this year. Now, with only 14 weeks to go, Trump is in a 13% hole (he's digging next to DIY, LOL).

If he election is a squeaker then advantage Trump. Not saying its over but things have got to change fast. What's the path for him to change our minds?

It is hard to believe. Here even the elementary schools (K-6) got computer labs between 97 and 99, not sure exactly. But I will say that my recent views of the education system in rural NH and VT were jaw dropping. I guess that's what happens when people aren't forced to pay collectively. I think they could do real good with their schools if only they could keep the people with talent. Brain drain is a big problem for rural communities as it is for foreign cities.
