Yeah we get 40lb King Salmon here in Lake Ontario too, (20-25lb is common) although the Ocean fish are likely much more powerful.
I really want to catch a salmon in open water on my centerpin, talk about you against the fish.

Their pretty much the same fish and the same fight. If you tie into a tyee you’ll have a fight no matter where it happens . They tend to fight more as soon as they hit the River mouth IME, but that is typically when I’m using the fly rod. Using a mooching reel and rod will give you a challenge and sore knuckles lol. The nice thing about the ocean is the coho tend to be on the top so you can flat line for them, unlike the lake where they tend to stay deeper.

30# is as big as they get here. Works for me. The more I can hook before I can't feel my hands. That monster would explode my gear. No nets on trout waters here. Nice one though.

I've about gave up on the slough drying out enough for me to move the brushpiles. The river has been full for a couple of months now, which fills the slough. I can go ahead and open up the valve from the well, then start fishing in the river to stock the slough. The frog population as already robust.
