Fighting Nasty Root Rot

Would several small light leaks (very difficult to block) mostly through the net pots be negated by a cool res (<72 f)? Could algae still destroy my crop?

How am I supposed to block out the net pots Im doing everything I can
Doesnt have to be anything fancy you just need to block light.
What size pots and what medium?
a simple solution is to buy/make covers. DIY, get something like heavy paper plates or black plastic lids from a coffee can and cut a slit from one edge to the middle and cut a small hole in the middle for plant to go through.

Styrofoam boards, tinfoil, cardboard, socks, mylar, net cup pucks all the way up to 5" and god knows what else you could use.

The net pots are covered with a homemade net part covered but still little tiny slivers of light so tiny you can barely see them makes make it through

If you are getting rot and slime in there constantly you need to drain that shit and sanitize your stones/tub. That is probably why you keep having problems. Pull the plants and sanitize it out. Clean your roots before you put the plants back in. Soak it all in Hydroguard and dose the shit out of it when you fill it back up for the first time.
If your blowing breakers that is the more important problem for now. That A/C probably could use its own circuit. I bet it pulls near 10 amps.

Okay just did a res change about 8 hours ago. I have an automatic cooling system now that brings in Winter air when the res temp goes above 71. I added nutes and 40 ml of hydroguard for my 20 gal res and nutes and 20 ml of hydroguard for my 10 gal res. These pics were taken like an hour ago and show bubbling, root, and plants.

It seems every res change (weekly) root rot gets worse. It looked worse than it was 8 hours ago?

I'd consider changing your setup up quite a bit. Not this grow though. I suggest looking into other methods of hydro to keep your water cooler. You don't HAVE to run A/C or a chiller to get those temps down. That's the easy way, but if you want to save power, I'd change the whole system.
You are going to have to run a remote reservoir.
Check out aeroponics. My thinking on this is that at one time there won't be much water in your warm tent, it will be in the cool res.
Drain to waste and fill and drain are also other methods that can be used to keep the majority of the water out of the tent for pretty cheap.

My entire basement runs pretty consistently at about 76 f. As for this grow, what do you think?

Keep the hydroguard going and run ice bottles. It's going to suck, but you just need to get through this grow. I've got some ideas for your next setup with those basement temps if you're interested later.

Or. It doesn't look like you are that far in. You could scrap it and start over if you don't want to fight it all the way through. I'd imagine bloom is going to be a rough ride.

II dont want to go back through all of this but are you using tap water? I just took my RO filter apart that I used for only 3 months, and got clogged, and the same exact shit in my hydro filter with tap is in my RO filter. I'm pretty sure it's not just sediment but who knows.

My point is that if you have bad tap, and there are tons of shit that can be in tap water, you might just be reintroducing crap into your system.

My RO filter after 3 months and my inline filter from my system.

Nute staining on roots and not root rot? (Looking at last pix)
What does it smell like in there?

Run a sterile res?

Air pump intake sucks in bacteria and injects it into your closed system.. source maybe in your basement.

I appreciate all the replies guys I'm going to try and get back to everyone as best as I can.

I always love hearing ideas so shoot me them anytime man. In the meantime, my reservoir is being cooled by whynter air it is currently 0f outside and I'm running a 4in intake with a 200 CFM fan to my tent to keep the temps in the reservoir lower than 72 degrees.

I am using tap water yep. I live in a big city in Ontario that has some very good quality tap water of medium hardness and I figure that it's good enough to run the cycle. I've done a lot of research and that's the conclusion I draw but I'm open to hear your thoughts and I can see that you caught a lot of residue maybe sodium and other stuff like chlorine and the chlorine ammonia.

Very interesting that the basement could be contaminated. It is generally really clean and there's nothing much down there it's quite an open Big Space maybe about 400 square feet one room. I haven't cleaned the totes since I started the project a month-and-a-half ago and there is a little bit of grime at top but I am pretty quick to pick up dead plant material in the res and around the res and to wipe up spills and such. There is a bit of a smell yep. I only recently got this cooling system setup like 4 days or so and I'm interested to see the results.

I noticed you never posted any pictures
I haven't directly uploaded pictures but I link to an Imager album several times

I agree it appears to be nute staining but there is one thing I'm noticing that is pointing to root issues.

The roots that are discolored don't appear to be growing, op let us know, add to that the appearance of new root growth as well.

I never saw the photo and they dont appear horrible and your water is very dark with nutes, I assume.

It could be both!

If your worried about possible enviromental factors you can either setup a lung room for your pumps or switch to waterfalls or flooming.
