I don’t hate cops generally. I respect the ones who know that they aren’t oppressors, but servants of the public; the ones who are in it to defend those who cannot do so for themselves. They need to stop industrializing criminal justice, with quotas, for-profit prisons, and unconstitutional and inhumane laws which literally turn people into stock units. Cops, being the ones with boots on the ground, have discretion. They can either be high speed medal chasers who end up getting both their comrades and innocent civilians killed in the pursuit of stifling freedom and perpetuating injustice and favor for the privileged, or true servants of the people, who uphold freedom and peace simultaneously.

Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage.
How to encourage the right kind of cop and weed out the wrong kind?

That's a tough question...

At the moment there area really aren't any meaningful checks on police power.

Together we act as a check on police power.
Unfortunately, we don't.

American government hasn't been listening to We the People for a decade now, ever since the Citizens United decision that allows unlimited funds to flood our political system, funds that come from the ultra rich and not the likes of you and me.

Therefore we DON'T count. Or opinions DON'T matter. The whole reason for police militarization and unchecked brutality is precisely to keep the populace in its place; obedient and hard at work, creating more profits for those very elite even as we starve, sicken and die ever younger.

Can't just let them run.
Can’t pursue them with a heavy vehicle you aren’t trained or authorized to use in a situation that guarantees the destruction of plants and wildlife as well as anyone they may not be able to spot. I personally blame the Game Warden, because he should have understood that the police commandeering his vehicle to drive into the woods would pose a problem for the job he was sworn to do. And, besides all that, just because he ran doesn’t mean his life is meaningless. This was entirely disproportionate.

I've run before and got caught , the cop let me off with a warning ...to be fair I am white
If African Americans make up ~12% of the US population, Hispanics make up ~18%, but together they make up 60% of the prison population, and 84% of the prison population is for minor possession offenses alone, and we’ve found that both demographics use drugs at around relatively equal rates, I imagine that would have gone much differently if you were any shade darker than white.

His life is over because of a stupid decision he made. Had he not ran, the cops wouldn't have been chasing him, never would of met that game warden, never would of plowed his ass over. He choose to be chased.

Your ignorance is exactly why he’s dead. If people like you were less egotistical and more educated, we’d have had the laws changed after the Shafer Report was released, and his life would never have been compromised to begin with.
