My Amare, Hydroponics Hut, & SunCloak Grow

How many watts are the HPS lights that you're using for 1 plant each? How many of which do you have? 1000w, 600w, 400w, 250w, etc.?
 
Strain Hunters has a number of YT videos showing various strains comparing soil v hydro, in time-lapse, though not sure which hydro method they use (I prefer F & D with 1-2 hour feeding intervals until mid flower, then ~ 3-4 hours). The results are often amazing with hydro typically >100% more product. Plus, with numerous additional feedings ppms can be significantly reduced, sort of like us eating smaller meals, but more often throughout the day

In regards to light, intensity and spectrum determine the growth characteristics such as stretching, leaf elongation/enlargement/thickness, root development, etc.. With the Amare's intensity you do not need to be as close. Unlike mono's that spread the intensity over a wider area from the multi diodes arrangement, COB's intensity is generated from a single chip so it's not a good idea to run them at less than 18" to ensure adequate coverage and avoid creating a hot-spot. You will get better coverage and intra-canopy penetration with greater canopy distance as long as there's sufficient intensity.

Why I'd expect colas on a plant from 150 watts a plant is beyond me. The SE-450 had 3 plants under it. Any one of those 3 could've taken up the whole footprint on its own.
The HH X5-500 had 2 plants under it. 225 Burple watts each.
Both had 100 watts of Cloak on the sides to but that wasn't helping the colas form.
The Cloak is designed to run many plants at a low wattage to each one.
My HPS plants have an average of 600 watts each plant. If I want to have led plants that look anything like them, I'd need to be @ around 350-400 watts a plant. Granted, those plants are bigger so maybe we'll say 300-350 led watts a plant would suffice for these medium sized plants.
Now that I added the Pro-4 to the SE-450 I'm @ 283 watts each plant & they are fattening up rapidly. On the HH side I've replaced that light w/ a Pro-4 which will give me 200 watts each plant but much better light quality & quantity.
The SunCloak is running @ 150 watts each plant.
So, aside from the things I did differant that may have slowed things down, I'm thinking the reason they look behind to me is because I'm comparing 150w plants to 600w plants.
Duh, that's not fair at all.
The 1 added light & the HH switch just happened a few days ago w/ hopes of retaining yields. Maybe I will a little. But the whole point here is: I should not expect similiar results @ 1/8 the wattage used per plant.
Next run will have 400 Amare watts per plant. Then & only then can I compare my HPS plants to my led plants.
Does that make sense to everyone?
As for now, the thread continues. The plants are healthy, & fattening up. They are very, very frosty. More so then my HPS weed by far.
Hopefully I can manage 4 plates out of this.

i agree with why you think they are smaller in most regards.
i have had plants that hate defo and are stunted by it.
the cloak with less power per square surface area will always have smaller consistant sized buds.
if the buds are denser under leds then your hps ,looking like they are not as far along,they might not be due to the density.
my lights are diy cxb 3590 at 50 watts per cob and have lens on each and am running mine around 12 to 16 inches away.you are running much farther away.
if you doubled the distance from your hps to the plants what would happen?smaller buds.
i am no expert on leds but running farther to get more coverage is not efficient.if the plants can take the light and have correct environment go closer.

did you put the hh in your veg?i used to use cheap ebay burple lights exclusivily for veg and they did great.they were no where near as efficient as my cxb lights are in veg though.

The led room is all differant strains then this room w/ the exception of the Kings, Chem-Dawg & GoGi.
Running multi-strains is a huge hassle. Especially when you don't know the strains you're dealing with.

Damn dude you're gonna have some serious Nuggage... That CFL bud is nice but it had a LOT of help from that hps
 
How much were these in vege mode?
When I see plants like this I wanna spank myself. Need to up my growing game... I am too much of a slacker.
 
I noticed something about my led plants today. Wide awake during lights out. Hu?! Middle of the night for them here. I see this happen once n awhile in both rooms. Wondering why? No lights anywhere. Thought before that it might be the fans, but naw. It ain't that. Maybe they just perk up when they hear my voice! Lol. Dunno.

I guess. That plant was between 2 HPS hoods. Stretched right up past the hoods n the CFL's did the rest. I think the HPS hitting the lower parts of the plant sends energy to the top, hence helping the CFL's. Yup.

I vegged them for 3 weeks under the T-5 & another 1 month or so under the LEDs. You can see them vegging in my last thread.
All new strains so a bit of a headache. 11 new strains in that room. All at once. Don't wanna do that again. Between those plants & the led room, I have like 4 strains I haven't ran yet.

Oh, just wanted to show you guys how well my 40w Utility-Tech Pro's work for supplemental side-light! It's hard to see but it puts out huge buds under the trellis. There on stands/tripods.
Thinking of grabbing some single cobs on Heatsinks off @BigSmo & mounting them to these stands. Probobly fit 2. Now that would be some real side-lighting. Wazup Smo, can I get some of those? image.jpg
Edit: Not the plant in the back that should've been cut n cleaned. That plant went bonkers n I didn't wanna cut into flower.

Man that hps room is slamming. Some 3k's in the flower room would help a lot. Perfect for spot lighting and supplemental. Give me a week or so to get things in order.
 
I watched the DeFo video again, paying close attention to the second DeFo. My plants have a lot more and bigger primaries (could be the Emerald Harvest nutrients, hydro, and/or the structured water, and/or the SPYDR 600 LED light. Anyway, going to DeFo #2 now (16 days) instead of recommended 20 days

Here's some 'before' pics (will post post DeFo soon), as well as the beauty under the SE 250 (she smells like Diesel!). Not going to DeFo her again

Looking good! Why the 16 instead of the 20? The leaves grow back just enough but not to much @ 20.
Nice Plants! The first one is under the 220? She's perrty!
Good job getting all the branches evened out on the 3rd. That's tough!
Thinking about switching over to Emerald Forest/ I'm mean Harvest. You like it too hu! Everyone that used it had good things to say. He switched to that from AN.
