New hobby for old head.

Yes. I will top most of them. I want to try FIMing on a couple and LST on a couple. Gonna leave one alone. Experimenting to gain knowledge.
I had never heard of FIM'ing before I got back into growing last year. Haven't done it on one of my plants yet, but I did FIM a few Jalapenos for practice. I will do a few that way, like you say, for the knowledge, but since tops has traditionally been my summertime smoke, I'll keep on topping heavily.

Did some tending yesterday and found this guy gaurding a patch.IMG_20160505_151638063.jpg
I found another helper.

I pulled the big male and replaced him with a young seedling. I dug another hole in a good east-west opening. All plants in the ground now. One seedling died of drowning. Been a wet spring here. May replace that one with a clone later on.

I like snakes better than most anything they eat, when it comes to growing weed or farming.

I killed a male yesterday too. But I had more plants than holes in that patch, so I put two in one hole. This patch is all bag seed, so it doesn't really mater that much as for yield. I just want to make some seeds off them. I always want a fall back plan.

Speaking of bag seed, my buddy gave me a hard little chunk of bud, and it ripped me pretty good. I haven't broke it all up, but no seeds so far. I'm going to hit him up for a few if there are any in the bag.

Your plants looking good.

I got hit by the deer pretty hard this week too. Only two of the six plants in the KP patch hadn't been munched on. I have some old chicken wire, now I just have carry it back to that bunch of woods and cut them to size.
Spray the plants with 7 dust {bean dope} and the deer will leave your plants alone..ky

The bugs are munching here and there. I didn't have the neem oil spray with me. It's not bad. I'll be sure and have it next visit.

BT? I've read here and there about it. Is there a brand name I can look for? My roses are getting nailed pretty hard right now by bud worms. I've seen the Bayer systemic for roses at Walmart and have no doubt it would do the trick for my roses. Was really wanting to find and try the BT so I'll have it on hand for the mj.

Not sure. I've just used what I had around for the garden, or made up a pepper and tobacco mixture.

I pulled a big male about 3 weeks back and replaced him with a healthy youngster. This spot is just killer because the little guy is now bigger than the one i pulled. And I think it's going to be male as well. I should know for sure on my next visit. If so I'm thinking of trying to transplant a girl that's just not performing in her current location.

Anyway here is a lovely young lady enjoying her day.IMG_20160520_164116692.jpg

I did some more topping on Thursday. Everything was looking good. On a whim I decided to take some cuttings from one of the ak47s. I took 4 cuts and immediately stuck them in a full water bottle I had in my pack. It looked like a lovely marijuana bouquet. When I got home I scraped about 3/4" of one side of the stalks then dipped in powder hormone then in soil. First time ever I've tried to clone. As it turns out it was misting rain all the next day so I left them outside under a shed where they could receive a good amount of light (it was overcast but not terribly) but not get drenched. One plant was leaned over pretty hard by the end of the day, but the other 3 looked great. The next morning the leaner was upright again and by the end of the day it looked worse than the day before. This continues and today it looks pretty much a goner. But the other 3, well have a look...IMG_20160606_174848204.jpgI was able to mist them a few times a day over the weekend but none at all today. I have kept them in indirect sunlight and it has been absolutely beautiful the last 2 days. I'm pleased so far.

I've never tried to go right into soil with weed cuts. Have done it with fruit trees and such. I have a 5 gallon rooter {submersible pump with 360 degree sprinkler head} I'm using this year. So far I'm 1/4 growing roots with it, but i did forget to mist the cuts for a couple of days. Last year I floated the cuts in foam coffee cups over an air bubblier in a aluminium roasting pan. I was 1/2 growing roots with that setup.

All four clones are still alive. The one that looked like hell pulled thru. I had to move them indoors to florescent light. The hot dry spell was putting too much strain on the poor things.

The plants in the bush are doing well. The big male stands at 6' and I have three ladies not far behind. IMG_20160608_180612565.jpg
I have left things on autopilot for the most part. I stop by to check when I can which has been once every 10 days or so. I top a little and squish a leafhopper or two with my fingers. I haven't applied any additional water or fertilizer. There are some ant mounds near the base of a few plants that I intend to exterminate on my next round. I read they can attract aphids. True?

I've heard that too, about ants "farming" aphids.

Your plants are looking great. I have one that is head high, and another half dozen that are almost as tall. Too many are still waist high or shorter. Most are not getting enough light. I was cutting trees today, trying to improve their situation. {the rain just started here. I put out the dry MG type blue stuff today. I'm happy it's getting watered in. I put some out last week ahead of a promised rain, but the rain never came}

Glad the clones are still alive. I've grown roots on tomato cuts. Now I have chili cuts in the rooter. Next will be some cuts from the Deer Ate CP1. It's one of the ones that is almost head high.
