That is about right. If you had one of the cups full of soil that had the same amount of water as the plants, you can flip it out to see how dry the roots would be. Soon you will be able to tell by the weight of the pot when it needs watering.

I started the last 10 seeds last night. I got up this morning and moved the first 10 out into the bush. My rugrats and their little cousins are going to hunt eggs tomorrow.
I went ahead and stuck 6 in the ground and left 4 in pots. Figured wtf. Here is a couple hidey hole shots.
These were early morning shots. And here is a shot of one in the ground.
I dug and ammended 4 more holes while I was there. I used elcheapo bag soil, perlite, and mixed in a solo cup full of 13-13-13 in and around each hole. I must say this shit is work. It's a pleasurable activity, but definitely ain't easy hiking this stuff in and digging and trimming stuff back.
Time to drink beer and enjoy a fish fry. Y'all have a good Easter out there.

Those are all great spots. Remember to put your hole on the north side of the clearing so you get as much southern sunshine as possible.
Your roots will tell you if it's time to transplant. Here is my Slo2's roots when I put them in the ground the other day. They could have stood a few more days.

10-4. I did that and tried to capture morning sun over evening sun if I had to choose one or the other. Figured that would dry the dew off the plants ASAP. I should have full sun from 9:00 till 3:00 at a minimum. I realize these natural openings are there probably because of poor soil so I tried to fix it up nice and proper.

If it's rated safe to use in the garden I wouldn't worry about using it. If not, just put it a little further way, so no runoff gets to the roots. I have a gallon of blended hot peppers in my freezer. I'm going to try adding some of that to my usual soap and tobacco spray.
That is the tobacco from one cig, a small slice of Ivory or some other "soap" soap and a quart of water. I wash with lye soap these days, so that is what I use. Just soak the tobacco and soap in a quart jar until it gets smelly, then strain it out and put it in a sprayer. You can spray it on your plants as often as needed. After any kind of rain, it needs to be resprayed.
All that said, I tend to wait and see with bugs. There is a lot of other shit in the woods for them to eat. If they leave my shit alone, I leave them alone.

That is why I tend to look for downed trees. If a 100 foot oak lived there, the soil must be pretty good.
And did you ask me a while back how big I dug my holes? I do so much thread hopping, I can't remember. But I try to dig them at least 32" across and 24' deep. Sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller according to roots and other conditions. But wider is more important than deeper.
Using radius squared X depth X 3.1416 / 231 that is 16 X 16 X 24 X 3.1416 / 231 = 83.5 gallons.

My plants are 10 days old. Meaning 10 days since they broke the surface. There are only 2 true leaves on each plant. They have been in full sun, low to mid 70° temps during the day, about half of those days have been rather cloudy. They have a nice green color. Only plain water, no nutrients. I've been careful not to over water.
I feel disappointed in the growth thus far. Should I be?
My next group will be in clear plastic cups so I can have a look at root growth. They are set inside red cups to protect the roots from sunlight. Maybe that will give me more satisfaction lol.

This early in the spring, the sun is not as bright. Your growth is going to be slower than summertime, or with lights.
My little Slo2 plant above is a couple weeks older than yours. I can't recall the exact date, but I'll check on my thread and post later.
Is there any nutes in the soil mix you are using? {sorry if you have already covered this. My memory. . . } If there is, water will be all you need for a while. If not, you need to use about 1/4 strength of whatever you are using. They need very little food or water at this point. And mine has been outside in 3-4 days of straight rain.

My understanding is clear cups are no good: you get algae growth and I think it screws with the roots, also. Once you get a little more size on 'em, there's no harm in popping them out of the pots to check the roots. Size as in a heck of a lot bigger than they are now. They'll get there...

Alright. Soaked Slo2 seeds in wet paper towel, 2-24-16. Put in soil 2-26-16. Most everything was popped by 3-4-16. So they are 24 days old. And my CP1's are a few days older than that.

You put the clear cup inside a colored cup. Take them out to look at roots, then put them back in the cup. Pretty neat idea.

No nutrients in the soil. I started them in some seed starting mix, mostly peat it looked like. Great germination rate. They did have trouble shedding the hulls after sprouting. I burried this last batch a little deeper in hopes they'll kick the hull off.
I'll add 1/4 strength nutes as recommended at next watering.
