I wanted to adopt a dog, drove the 40 miles in the snow to get the shelter, they had a jack Russell mix female and a jack Russell mix male, they bring out the female first, the dog is beautiful, but she was a total spaz, so I asked to see the male, I loved him as soon as seen him, I gave him a scratch behind his ear just like my dog loves, and he looked up at me like he knew, that I was ok, and he was loving it. then I went and got my 18 month old Russell, and they hit it off right away, they were playing and being silly, then the girl from the shelter noticed my dog is not spayed and will not be spayed period. its my choice not there's, it's my dog, I love him, care for him, he will keep his nuts so I can maybe breed him in the future. the girl from the shelter gave me shit about how I was bad person
for not spaying my dog and how they will not let me adopt and I told her to go screw her self, and left pissed off, and I checked a bunch of dogs on craigslist and the internet and every one them, from a rescue, shelter, some private parties, will spay before adoption. I don't want spayed dogs, I want puppies, cause I love Jack Russells. and don't get how they can spay every thing then give shit when you don't.

We kill 3-4 million cats and dogs every year because of people who don't want to or don't believe in spaying and neutering. That girl who gave you shit probably sees animals put down every day because they have the sniffles and the kennels are over-crowded.

If you want to breed, then pay the premium for a documented genetic history and blood-line. If you want a loving pet, please don't add any more to the huge problem of unwanted pets.

Very true, my ex worked at a vet clinic and it used to make her sick how many animals get put down everyday. Too much irresponsibility when it comes to people starting puppy mills just to make a quick buck, not saying that is what the op had in mind.

Yea I've worked at a UCAPS dog and cat rescue shelter as a volunteer before and saw just how big of a problem not spraying/neutering your animals is. I understand where you are coming from wanting to be able to breed for puppies and what not, but you gotta look at it from their view point too....they have people out there that are just like you and want to breed and have puppies, only to keep only 1 puppy out of a large litter and then come in and put the other 5+ puppies they can't get rid of in Walmart parking lot up for adoption....it turns to shit quickly, lemme tell ya

I really wanted a male dog as a playmate for my dog, but they won't let me adopt because my dog is not spayed, both of the shelter dogs male and female were spayed, so my dog would not be able to breed any way, so I don't get how they can deny people to adopt, I was trying to save a dog by giving it a good home, and a playmate, but I guess that's not going to happen. because it my dog and my choice period. my dog is in my control 24hrs a day, so they have no right to force there beliefs on me, I have the right to tell people to go fuck themselves just like every other American.

always spay or neurter...its just the right thing, also dogs who arent spayed have a high chance in cancer and thats just a whole set or other problems

My dog is spayed, but I have no problem with someone breeding as long as they are willing to accept the burden in case they aren't able to find a home for all the pups. If someone wants to breed knowing they can only afford to keep 1 alive, they are a jackass, period.

I'm also all for selective and intelligent breeding, leading to a better subspecies.

I got the space, money, time to build a kennel and have one or two litters, and find them good homes, I'm not breeding and selling dogs for a living, that's not what it is about, it's about my dying father wish for me to breed his Jack Russell, well now my Jack Russell cause my dad has passed on but not his wish, and once I committed to something I go all in or nothing, so there will be some puppies just not sure when. and if I got to keep them all, I will love every one of them.

Then do it and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. You sound like you have things planned out, so it should be easy to follow through.

As long as your responsible about it do what you like, i would respect dieing wishes the same...sorry to hear about your father...try to get a full blood mate for him, getting homes for the others won't be hard as long as your not charging an arm and leg

We do have that right to tell people to fuck themselves, fortunate us, but with it comes the right to be told to fuck oneself as well...

Too bad about the other dog. I wonder if other's will think she's a spaz and reject her as well. It really doesn't matter - there are hundreds of other dogs that may or may not be spazes. As long as you can save one, who cares about the others?

If I lectured you about this stuff like I am here, I wonder if you would say that I'm giving you shit. I don't think I'm being rude. I did tell you to go fuck yourself, but that was more in response to you saying that it is a right. Even if it is a right, it is not an obligation to be rude. So if she was rude, then she was wrong on that level. Too bad, because she had a rather important message to convey. As it is, she is probably some stressed, under-paid worker who is just following county regulations and faces the ugly reality of our disposable-pet society every day.

Well yeah. There's a reason for that. There are too many unwanted pets. Millions killed every year because they did not find good homes. You love animals - go volunteer in a shelter for a while. They could really use the help. See it for your self.

You are really confusing beliefs for statistics, city regulations, and so forth. Regardless - they are not stopping you from getting a dog. They are just unwilling to provide you with one. No forcing of anything there. And remember, right does not mean obligation.

So many of the animals that never get adopted come from people with the same lofty goals. You have my sympathies for the loss of your father. However, were he alive, I would say the same things to him - except I wouldn't say the F-word because he didn't open the door to that.

I don't think you're a bad person - just uneducated in this matter and without any personal experience on the shelter worker's side of things.
