Will LED lights ever....

but you aren't using math to make the comparison to even start....what are the raw number for the 440's vs the 600w HPS?

Strains, etc? What was the PPFD for both lights, any other variables....

and in reality you are comparing single die diode's to HPS....single die diodes that may be 30% to boot, so yes, efficiency is a big deal, since it is related to a variety of parameters, most notable...raw photon output, which can be compared between different light sources. :peace:
you need to get past comparison...this is not what I am talking about...

I want to yield as much as I can every run... paying a little extra for electricity to gain a lot is worth it to me...

Again, I do not need to be sold on efficiency. I get that by the numbers they are better and I want to go LED...

But in a run I want to yield as much as I possibly can....

Anyway, a pic of the grow I mentioned above...
Again beating a dead horse, Efficiency itself isn't the # you need, but taking into context using math, will allow you to calculate PPFD or PPF and at least have a comparison to make between TWO different light sources.

Please read up on radiometric versus photometric qualities of light. you are killing me......

Then know your PPF, regardless if it HPS or LED, right now, you KNOW NEITHER!

He grew decent weight with average grow time with shitty led panels:

I'm very new to growing so I might be wrong. But I've been reading up on led so much from the experienced growers here and my impression is that led has surpassed hid now and in the way to crush it.

Did you read the argument even? What does it say? Its right there in the second sentence. Please read, then ask again, if still unsure. :peace:
Sorry couldnt resist, everytime I hear people yakking about gpw I think of littlejacob. Its called a joke, didnt mean to toss you into your period bro.

If you want to yeild the most than figure out what is holding you back. Is it heat, space or money? If it is heat than good leds will help. If it is space, good leds will help. If its money, stick to the 600s

... except for when time is added to the equation, at least in my limited experience. Meaning... the HID plants produced roughly 30% more in slightly less time.

Regardless of what math is used to prove efficiency, the 30% more yield in the same space and roughly the same time is a HUGE factor.

This experiment of mine, while not scientific, matches what I have heard from others who grow around here with LED.
SolarStorm 440 draws 320 watt.
2 Solarstorm 440s next to 1 HPS 600 watt (this is excluding the energy the ballast uses) is a fairer comparison.

Your 640 watt combined LEDs did 9 ounces, your 1200+ watt HID did 13 ounces.
Easy to see which of the 2 performed better.

A 600 watt Vero or CXB fixture will easily outdo a 600 watt HID fixture.

Your HID plants where under lights that consumed twice the amount of energy.
HID does not give more yield you simply doubled the wattage.

Your experiment is basically this.
I make a 5 watt led fixture and I compare with a 1000 watt incandescent fixture.
The plants die under the led while the plant under the inscadents flowers.
I then claim that inscadent provides more yield than LED.

That's what you just did figuratively.

Duh! :) ......still the 600w HPS is the better of your two CURRENT choices imho.... they rip shit up and have a higher efficiency [Surprise] most likely than the Cali Solar's too....

True.

But i dont care to know it right now. I have other research to do to improve my growing... when i get to a point of growing skill that requires that knowledge i will make the effort..

The solar storm was outdated technology when it came out. Its like comparing two apples to one old shriveled apple when running it up against a 600. You need some oranges

So my mistake was believing the manufactures claim that the 440 was the equivalent of a 600w hid.....

Oh.... shitty...

So if i had 600w of LED i would have yielded the same or more as the 1200w of hid?
