Because they were freebies I won! And why the hell not? I won't even need to be starting my photo period plants for another 3 months in this closet. First time auto grower, loong time photo period grower. Might as well, it's the middle of winter.

So I recently started an auto tent because it was the most cost effective way to do so.
I don't have anymore room in my house.
I put a 4*4 tent outside.
The 1k hps keeps them warm enough. With autos I can flower them 24/0 where as photos would die from the freezer while it's off. So it was the simplest and cheapest way to add a few more plants to my grow.
Until I build a grow shed I'll have my photos indoor and my autos in my outdoor tent.

I started the post, I’ve never used auto’s. Don’t need them, only wanted to see if anyone had a good point for using them. I’ve yet to read one.Clearly this post wasn't created in an attempt to gain insight or understanding.
That leaves me to speculate. Since 90% of threads created solely to bash autos are posted by people who failed miserably, I'll go ahead and assume that's the case here.

Different strokes for different folks. I do autos outdoors in the summer, that way i can get 2 harvests in one summer

Best answer I’ve received yet explaining why to use autos. I still disagree with using them, but I understand humans can be lazy and like to cut corners.

If you ran just one harvest outdoor, would you get more or the same amount/weight? Do you do it strictly for 2 harvests then? So you can fill your jars up sooner, Twice the work for same amount? I run photo's indoors , I dont use auto's indoors cause it's a pain in the ass, no cloning and having to buy seeds is a deal breaker. If I find that magic pheno I can clone it and have it forever. They're super sensitive and arent any stronger than a photo.
BUT if you were just starting out and had limited tools/space and auto is a great way to cut you're teeth, they will teach you the basic's and the requirements that a cannabis plant needs, and you can successfully grow you're own for alot less than a photo. Outdoors in northern climates they shine too, getting " in my case" 2 harvests per summer, or for some people way up north one good harvest per summer.
It's not a one way street by no means , what works well for me or you may not for someone else . It's a perfectly viable tool in the tool box to use

The main reason i do autos outdoors is cause up here it starts getting cold around the 1st week of september and most photos wont finish before it's too cold to survive. I used to have to bring them in to my garage for a month to finish them, that in itself is labor intensive and costs me lots more money for the 3k hps light bill .
It evens out man it really does. I dont really gain or lose anything in labor or quantity.
But indoors and auto's for me are a hell no

I run autos because I run perpetuals and also do auto seed breeding . Simple .
Photos are vegging along side plus I can run photos as 12/12 SOG grows.
Never out of weed is the main reason , never out of select strains.
When I pop Mephisto ( for example ) I always STS some lower branches to pollinate another equally aged plant .
Those lower branches are clipped , stem in water to get pods to “ dump “ on ceramic dish and now I pollinate.
Even “ non Mephisto “ strains like HSO.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense to use them outdoor if it won’t have time to finish. I got into breeding cannabis, so autos are a scary gene pool nightmare in my mind and I couldn’t understand why the desire for them. You’ve helped me understand a little bit, I still don’t like them.

Some people just have a higher standards for their weed than others...if people wanna grow autos more power to them...I've yet to see any that make me wanna hit up the auto section seed menu n shop for any...if I spend months on a plant I don't want schwag
