Which HDTV to buy ???? ...Decissions .... !!!! - STELTHY :leaf:

Hi one and all, now I know HDTV's have pretty much nothing to do with 'POT' unless its to view awesome movies when your high as f*%k! or to view Trichs in ultra hi-def etc... Point is I am after the 'BEST' HD-TV in both a 55" and another in a 32" the 55" needs to have the 'SMART' function and also '3-D' but the 32" only needs to have the 'SMART' funtion..

I am looking for TV's with a really high re-fresh rates for silky smooth movement on the screen. I have looked at a couple of LG's and a couple of Panasonic's but can't make myself hand over thousands of pounds on something when I have a gut feeling there is a newer better one just around the corner.

Feel free to discuss, Pro's & Cons, Prices I'll upload PICS n LINKS shortly of a few I have checked out and/or almost bought - Card in hand' I really want the newest bested HD-TV available either right now or sometime this year.


"I'am sure there are at least a few...hundred other RIU Members out there, that share my enthusiasm for enriched HD/3-D movies whilst high as balls". Please feel free to mention your HD-TV and a brief/in-depth overview of its performance and whether or not you've had any problems with it.

I will be using both an X-BOX 360 and a SONY PLAYSTATION 3, a WII, PC, SKY HD/SKY HD-3-D, HD Cam-corder, and HD-Microscope and want the most enjoyable viewing pleasure for all of these.

Its a toss up between LED (Back-lit) and PLASMA both have there Pro's n Con's... I can afford to pay approx say... £2500 on the 55" HD-TV and around £1000.00 on the 32", these are Maximums if you like?!! I'd obviously prefer to spend less, but at the same time am aware 'Quality' usually comes with a 'High price-tag'

It will be connected to a full Technics surround sound seperates for now inc Tecnics Sub, but once the HD-TV's have been sorted I will upgrade to a 'KEF' on DENON setup for ultimate sound...However for now I just want the best of the best HD-TV's for my money!!



I think this should be a great thread and attract at least a few replies/responces.. as always best answers/replies will be rewarded with +REP! I hope this not only helps me but any other Movie/Game buff's out there!! ..that are looking for awesome HD-TV's from 2011-2012 onward.

You have to go to the store to figure that out. Stop in at best buy, play around with the tv settings and choose one you like. That's why they're there.

I got a plasma over the summer and Ill tell you the glare off it annoys the shit out of me almost daily..I wouldnt recomend it unless you watch tv in the dark constantly.

I've been to the likes of Currys and Comet, and even specialist TV shops.. and have viewed a couple that seemed really promising... I was all set for getting the 55" Samsung (LINK below)

However.... as much as I fell in-love with the design and the 2-D pic was ultra clear!! Sadly the 3-D display was haunted by severe Ghosting (cross-talk) and it really really lets it down, hence I didn't buy it and am still looking... - STELTHY

I bought it from Currys about 7 years ago... I've never had any problems with glare although the room is quite dark and there's only ever a 40w CFL (2700k) on at any one time.. so glare is not really an issue, but 3-D cross talk is defo something I can do without!! Do you plan to upgrade your current Plasma ?? if so what path are you going to take ?? - STELTHY

I like that samsung lol. I don't know what to tell you though, just keep looking. I'd stick with LED though.

Samsung makes the best tv's and it's not even close. They have a 55" lcd/led with their version of high refresh. They don't talk about refresh rate because they have some system or word for theirs but it's 240 min in that regard. Has google tv smart tv with google chrome browser.
I have had a jvc, a phillips perfect pixel, and an earlier samsung model. If you really want a tv that's going to be well made and have an awesome viewing experience for a long time, samsung is the only brand you should be looking at. No I am not a samsung shill. Also they are paper thin and fairly light.

i don't know a whole lot about 3d because i learned most of my tv stuff working for cable and that technology was just coming out when i left the company.

what i cannot stress enough is to read the reviews on whatever tvs you consider. i have a vizio led and a year after i got it some of the led lights went out at random, so when the screen is white there's dark spots all over it. some brands are notorious for this happening, and when it happens the repair isn't worth the cost. may as well buy another one at that point.

avoid shiny screens and shiny trim around the screen. the glare literally ruins the viewing experience.

plasma is the best for action scenes. remember that the refresh rate when you're watching cable is often limited by the cable itself. i don't know about now but when i worked for cable, even if you had a 120 hertz refresh rate, you would only get the 60 through the coax because of the nature of how it was broadcast from the headend. trust me, it makes a difference when you try to watch action movies and certain scenes start blocking. for all i know this could be a non-issue in most areas now but i think it's worth mentioning. satellite did have the 120 hertz rate through broadcast. obviously things like blue ray make use of the 120 hertz refresh rate. hell when i worked at cable they didn't even broadcast in 1080p, just 1080i. this was 2 years ago so i could be talking out of my ass, but a lot of cable companies are way the fuck behind in a lot of areas. if you have satellite then never mind this whole paragraph lol.

i have an old one and it works fine. don't break the bank to try to get the latest and greatest bc when it really comes down to it, you will proably be happy with any of them these days. they r all way better than mine & I still love mine

Samsung hands down.

We thought our buddys Xbox had way better graphics than our PS3, then we got a Samsung TV to. No more thoughts of XBOX being better than PS3.

Plasma has a better picture than LCD's...darker darks etc. I have track lights behind the set so no glare. If picture quality is REAL important, have a technician do an ISF calibration. Helps the dark and grayscale and gets rid of the red puch so many sets have by default. A bit pricy, but if you're spending thousands on the set, a few hundred to make it look its best are well worth it

I am a long time Sony Fan when it comes to hdtvs, and some of their new SMART tvs are just amazing. The nice thing is if you combine it with a ps3 or other sony accessories they include bravia link reducing the amount of controllers!

Although on a side note look into the logitech Harmony one remote control, once you use it you could never go back!

Three years ago when buying my two TVs I pondered plasma v. lcd. I'd just had a plasma set die after 3 years of operation, so I was leery of such a set's longevity. I am very pleased with my two LCD sets ... they also seem to run a bit cooler. Jmo. cn

we love the Samsung hdtv's got 2 now and never had a problem wit em, they got a great picture and there a well known, dont get a plasma

Yeah LCDs do run cooler. I've had my plasma over four years now, prolly on an average of ten or twelve hours a day. So far no issues, knock on wood!
