where can i get a descent timer?

where can i get a descent timer? i have a IIIWoods timer IT SUCKS (seriously dont buy one, itll kill your plant if you dont catch it right.)
i have my timer set to turn on at 6:00AM and to shut off 12:00 PM and the timer turns on at eny timer it wants from 4-5. i cant depend on this especialy if i wanna bud this plus it is hard to set up theres little pins i push down 6 threw 12 and left up 2-4 it only gos on even numbers too its bad if you have one of these you should buy a new one.

It really depnds on what you are trying to do. Do you need it to be upgradeable in the future? Any hardware store sells several models of 120v timers. You can get the same ones cheaper online as well. Intermatic is the primary manufactuyre and they offer several levels of quality, anywhere from cheapo 2.99 versions up to timer boxes that run into the hundreds of dollars. You can get timers that will run your 240v ballasts as well, Intermatic makes them. I just upgraded from two 240v 600w ballasts to four. Instead of buying more individual timers I bought a 240v "water heater" timer. You can wire several ballasts directly into this one. I use 7 day digital timers for my hydro pumps. These are cool because you can set them to do different things over a 7 day period. They are also much more accurate allowing you to turn of and off down to the minute.

If you are very concerned about timer failure it would be pretty easy to build a redundant backup. Get two extension cords and splice them together so that you have two male ends and one female end. Now plug your ballast into the female end and the two male ends into two separate set on the same schedule. If one timer fails to turn the lights on, the other will still work. Tada! (Note this will prevent timer failure from keeping the lights off but will not turn the lights off if the timer is stuck in the on position).

I got mine from the grocery store for about 5 bucks. The time runs a bit slow (about 30 minutes off in about a month) but it doesn't really matter, still running on 18/6.
