What do you think about CAN and Prima Klima carbon filters?

Hi, i'm looking for a good reliable carbon filter. What do you think about these two brands? Do they truly remove all the smell, and how long do they last?

CAN and Prima Klima filters are the most abundant in all EU grow stores, i would even say they're the only 2 options. I read some good reviews about CAN but the reviews are old from 2010, i couldn't find much from 2021.

I can't find popular brands like iPower, Vivosun, TerraBloom, AC Infinity etc. so they're not an option. The most i could find was few dubious EU websites that sell Phresh filters, but they're more expensive and the websites are weird. Should i just go with CAN? Or should i try and get a Phresh filter for a bigger price from a weird website?

6" x 24" 600 CFM Can-filter only lasted 2 months before I could smell bud outside at vent. I was running an ACI S6 fan on setting 3. Very disappointed in the filter. Will try a Phresh/Phat next instead.

Good to know, i almost bought it. It's the Can-Lite series, right?

I’ve always used CAN mostly because they were around when I started and I trust them. Any time I’ve tried to buy cheaper filters I like active air or something it doesn’t work very well. The can lite filters work good as well. I buy the big ones I have a 12x40 and 2-10x40and an 8x40. I’m about to have to replace all but a couple of them soon they do wear out after a couple years.

I used a can lite years ago and it worked fine. I only used it for one grow though so I cant comment on how long they last.

I used a Mountain air for a couple of years and they make a great filter. I use a smaller tent now and went with Carbo air. I havent flowered with it yet but I havent seen any bad reviews for the company. I'm in Europe too and both of those brands were easy to get.

Just make sure to get a filter with double the amount of cfm that the fan has for single pass runs.

For example, if your fan is 400 cfm, get a filter with 700 to 800 cfm rating.

I stick with can filter... they've never let me down. I always go for the original ones with the thick 2.5" carbon bed. The "lite" model ones seem a little cheap and are lighter, but thats only because they have a thinner carbon bed. Just means you will need to change it out sooner than going with the original can filter.

I've never heard of Prima filters before.

Can and PK are only good for one round IMO. They start smelling a bit sour by harvest.
No way. I run Can150 filters... one in the veg room last 2.5 years The one in flower last about 6-7 cycles. With any filter you buy, make sure it's got at least a 2.5" carbon bed. Those "lite" filters are just a thinner carbon bed and they only last about 2-3 cycles.

I run my Can Filters in sealed rooms... even my veg room is sealed. I just have the fan/filter combo scrubbing and recirculating. I'm not sure if this is why my filters might last longer.

PrimaKlima is solid if you choose their industrial stuff with proper specs and classifications.

I don't know of better stuff if you live in the EU.

Why would you choose bigger filter than fan? If filter is rated for 700-900 CFM, then you use 800 CFM fan and not 400 CFM fan. Never understand this.
Also, do you guys remove old carbon and add new, or buy new filter? I've read somewhere that you can't place enough carbon in filter like they do in factory so it's leaking.

Strange, in all my years of growing I've never had a filter last for more than a couple of rounds. I currently have a 900m3/h Rhino Pro in my exhaust and it started letting a bit of smell through in the last weeks of flower, I added another inline fan and filter (600m3/h Rhino Pro) next to the exhaust to work as a scrubber. I want zero smell though.

I can't even imagine the type of mess you would make emptying out the old carbon and replacing it with new... totally not worth the trouble imo.

Thanks everyone for the replies. A lot of mixed opinions though, especially on the Can. From what i've learned so far it's the Lite version that's missing the quality, the Original seem better. Also now i found 2 more websites with Phresh filters so i'll probably get that one. Any experience with the website cultureindoor.eu?

I heard good things about Mountain Air, can you please tell me where did you get it? Hopefully not UK lol.. After Brexit i might as well order from USA, the price would be the same :D Unless they changed the rules and there's still free movement of goods between UK and EU, which i'm not aware of

As i understand, bigger filter removes the smell more efficiently because the air moves slower through the filter, the carbon has more time to catch all the odors, plus the bigger surface of carbon. If the fan sucked the air too quickly, the carbon wouldn't be able to do its thing.
And i was also interested in refilling filters, the Can advertise it. But as you said, only factories can fill it up properly so i think it's a bit misleading. Maybe it would work for plants with less odor, but not for cannabis.

I bought the Mountain Air from a local shop here in Ireland.

I bought the Carbo Air online from a shop in the Uk so I did have to pay the customs fees but it wasn't too expensive. They're supposed to be one of the best brands out right now.
