help me find a carbon filter of equal or greater quality

so my large can-filter finally stopped working this year i've been unable to find the same filter. i think they may have discontinued the size i had. i got many many years out of this filter so was hoping to find the same filter unfortunately it looks like its gone. i tried sending an email to can-filter (hawthorn figures) the email address listed on there website doesn't work how typical and when you phone them before it opens they say they cant answer the phone until such and such a time and when you phone when they are indeed open it goes straight to voicemail. the filter i currently have is 20" inches tall, and the outside diameter is 15 1/2" inches this thing is a beast it weighs 60lbs. im going to make a leap here and say there is probably more than 40lbs of activated carbon inside the filter. the 6" vortex fans i like to use move 500 cubic feet of air per minute.

i was looking on there website but it almost feels like the quality/weight of the carbon has dropped this is a link to the 6 inch filter they sell today

anyone have any suggestions for carbon filters of quality that list the technical specs on the manufactures website such as depth of carbon bed and the actual weight. edit: curiosity got the best of me i dismantled it and weighed it, the carbon is 47 lbs, and the empty filter is 13 pounds.

vivosn is all I had to look into and I used vrtex too with active air speed dial its the few that pair with it properly. never had to worry about using ducting to connect each piece (some worry about grow smell leaking through flange.) smelled like carbon only instead of odor.

it only lasts 4-6 months but not too costly and it worked in the opposite style setup (air blowing out.)
 
All I could find last time I was filter shopping was Can-Lite filters, not the regular ones.

I've never deviated from rhino pros though.

Weird selling a filter without a flange . Never seen that before
 
thanks for the info everyone. it looks like my suspicions after looking at the technical specs were correct. guess what i just learned the hawthorn gardening company bought can filters in 2017 (they also own phresh filters) and laid-off most of the employees then switched to a cheaper quality carbon to fill the filters and changed some of the sizes and now not only is the carbon cheaper they are putting less in the filter vs price so the filters themselves dont last as long. i spoke to the guys over at kootenay filters and it turns out they're ex employees of canfilters and are making their filters the same way they were made prior to hawthorn buying the company where they used to work. 5 years is pretty good for a filter, im going to switch to kootenay fuck hawthorns filters. :clap:
 
Have you thought about disassembling it by drilling out the rivets and putting fresh carbon in it? I've read you can also bake old charcoal to re use it a few times. The pores get moist and clog, it just has to be baked and vacuumed of or something from what I imagine

Can got bought out. The guys that worked there make Kootenay filters. They're made the same way the old cans were made, literally on the same street.
