image.png Hey it's time for me to replace my bulbs before my next grow and this is my first time having to buy bulbs my first set came with the light in a set. I'm just wondering what companies are known for producing good bulbs for the money? By the way looking for Metal Halide (MH)and High Pressure Sodium(HPS) bulbs. Also curios what experienced growers think about how often you should be replacing your bulbs when used in an average way like 18/6 and 12/12. I know some Autoflower growers obviously have there lights on more throughout a grow. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Replace bulbs after every 2 runs (6 months)

My exp so far has been with a Phillips CMH in my 315 sunsystems light, and now an Eye Hortilux Blue MH. The 315 cmh has been my favorite light to date and prompted me to go with the 600w. The ballast I have is a digital one from Eye Hortilux as well and was easy to setup, has an on/off switch right on it, and doesn't get too hot. Happy with these items so far.

I'm sure others will chime in with more/better options.

I understood :blsmoke:
What did you pay for each? Found eye Hort. For like $70 on Amazon still looking for the Phillips. Are all metal halides ceramic? Or does that make it better in some way? I usually start veg with my 4ft T5 then switch to MH later on to save some electricity so I may be able to use it for 1 more grow. Didn't realize bulbs were gonna be so expensive

I am awaiting the release of their 600w CMH because I liked my 315 CMH so much.

Cheers :bigjoint:

Not finding Phillips on Amazon for my wattage. 400w. The horrific seems to have decent reviews though so that's good to know. Appreciate it

On Amazon I saw some 315's but wasn't sure if that would fit my 400 id never heard of a 315 setup see. 150 200 400 600 1000 for some reason I thought those numbers were like style or someshit sometimes there seems to be a bunch of numbers in titles so I never really know why half shot means. I just look for the 400w

What will you be using?

List your gear then myself and others can better help. My 315 was a beast of a lamp for the cost and it's killing me sitting there but the 600W went up in it's place.

It's a good light for 3.5x3.5 or smaller in my opinion. I like the natural spectrum of it, the frost, and the penetration and growth from it. You can buy veg or flower bulbs for the CMH too.

I have never used a 400W MH/HPS and this 600w is my first try with an MH. I want to see what it does through the entire run before messing with the EH Super HPS.......

But I also want to mess with the CMH 600W when they release it.

some people like cheaper bulbs and they replace them more often
Makes sense I guess. I'm only running a 400w with 4 plants under it usually. So I wanna get the most outta my setup I can. And for some reason I figure id try and get some good bulbs and might get tiny numb in yield cuz I fours bulbs that came with my setup are cheap. Not that they were bad or anything but bigger the yield happier and more stoned I am.

i did a analysis awhile back that if you never ever replaced your hid bulb and used that $50-$100 instead to buy an LED (eventually phasing out hids by dimming or pulling individual fixtures) youd be way ahead

That's why you should just buy cobs.

When I bought my current setup I looked at a few leds but I don't really know anything about them and they seemed exoensive to me but I'll keep tht in mind I really need to do research on them and understand them. I'm new to indoor growing and had helped a friend who had a similar setup to mine so I felt comfortable with it. Known of any sites or threads in here that give basic info on leds and growing etc. for some reason it seems like there's a lot to know about them and which leds you use for which cycle etc.
