Baking soda and meat tenderizer, mix with water to a paste.

Symptomatic Treatment

Most insect bites and stings only cause local reactions, including redness, swelling, pain and itching.

After you thoroughly wash the area with soap and water, other symptomatic treatments that may help your child feel better include applying:
  • an ice pack or cool compress
  • a meat tenderizer solution, which can be made by mixing one part meat tenderizer and 4 parts of water. This is especially helpful for painful stings from bee, wasp or ant. For best effect, soak a cotton ball in the meat tenderizer solution and use it to rub the area of the bite for 15-20 minutes.
  • a baking soda paste
  • a topical steroid or other topical anti-itch cream, such as Calamine lotion, to the area
Other medications, including an oral antihistamine for itching, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), and/or pain medications, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, may also help. More extensive local reactions may sometimes require a short course of an oral steroid.
Antibiotics may be needed if the bite becomes infected.

Makes sense. Give him a benedryl worse case scenario.
benadryl has a bad effect on him, the cream seems to have worked he's happy and jumping and playing.

damn dude i don't know if anyone's said this or not but your first instinct should be to call the vet if your animal is hurt instead of posting it on RIU.

my own two damn cents.

my cat almost got killed by a raccoon earlier this month.
I did, they were at lunch. Called back later they said basically if he just jumped in and jumped out and there weren't a bunch still biting him not to worry, that they aren't really dangerous. They told me to put baking soda and water paste on his feet. I did that and he stopped licking the area and he's doin' just fine. Thanks for your help all, I repped who I could til I ran out, some of you I couldn't yet.

I think I got lucky because I don't see any swollen spots on his legs, and he is a short hair, so hopefully he just agitated them.

The only probs from fire ants (if you or pet dont have allergy) is just a lil pain and itchiness. They have been know to kill cows though, because they keep stinging and cows cant or dont run away. Your lil pup should be cool. I fell in a bed when I was a kid...I just have a lil twitch now...no prob ;)

Baking soda is the bomb, it'll draw out the bad stuff. It's also good for removing odors, acid stomach, brushing your teeth, washing you clothes etc etc

Is there anything baking soda can't do? I think not!

Glad your puppy is doing ok

Reminds me the time I went to sit down beside my dog, then all of a sudden I started to feel bites, looked down and he was COVERED in red ants. I think his fur protected him though because he looked pretty happy

I just wanted to thank everyone that helped me out. Percy is doing GREAT. He's been his happy go lucky self since the incident. He hasn't shown any sign of allergic reaction and he's now sleeping on my lap as I write this, so ty for the advice while the vet was at lunch. :P

my vet charges like 35 for a visit but if they aren't open and you have to go to the hospital, it's like 300$ every time. i think you could give benedryl but onnly a half tablet (look online for the proper dose before doing so). I have cortisone cream and powder for my dogs here, I am like an animal hospital lol. I m like a human hospital too, i have everything but i bet if you do nothing he will be fine in a day or two. poor guy.

he is really really cute. i wish he could come over and play - i would take good care of him. we are fun over here.

I played in an ant bed when I was 3 while being "watched" by a babysitter...

I can still vividly remember being in the kitchen sink and having my mom use the spray hose to wash the ants off, that's all I can see... but if I remember it, it must've been a bit painful.

My dog just jumped both feet first into a fire ant bed. He's just a lil pup and I got them all off and Sevin sprayed the shit out of the bed. But he's whiny and hurting now and he NEVER whines. Is there anything that I can do to help him? He's got bites all over his feet (he sunk his legs half way into the bed. Here's his pic, he needs advice, help a furry friend!
