My dog just jumped both feet first into a fire ant bed. He's just a lil pup and I got them all off and Sevin sprayed the shit out of the bed. But he's whiny and hurting now and he NEVER whines. Is there anything that I can do to help him? He's got bites all over his feet (he sunk his legs half way into the bed. Here's his pic, he needs advice, help a furry friend!

Call a vet. maybe they'll suggest antihistamines or something. Don;t know how serious fire ants are, but I'd make that call to make sure your little buddy will be ok

Take him to a vets thats what they are there for. You would want someone to take you to the doctors if you got ill right?

You can rub moisturizing cream on to the affected areas to lessen the inflamation. Watch him close, I have heard about fire ants killing cattle and sheep.

if you have tramadol on hand it will help him greatly.
If you go to the vet you'll pay at least $400-$650 for them to look at it, clean it, and prescribe him tramadol.
Maybe some antihistamine cream.

well they aren't poisonous but it's like, I'd say 1/4 the pain of a bee sting per bite. He's just sitting there licking his paws. He got out pretty quick, I was just wondering if someone knew anything I could put on to keep the pain down. I stuck my foot in and got bit about a dozen times so I could try shit out on me before putting it on him but nothing I can think of is really working that well. I know how to make a tobacco and salt paste that'll do it (btw if you ever get stung in public spit on a small piece of tobacco and put it on the spot and it'll draw out a lot of the stingy juice, same with salt but not as effective) I just want to find something that works with fur, and he's my first dog and I've only had him 6 mo. so I'm a puppy newbie.

NO vet charges that much. Mine charges 40-50 bucks for a visit like that, maybe a little more if they prescribe meds.

Calling and telling them what happened is free, see what they have to say about how serious it might be

Yep vet to make sure he has no kind of reaction to the bites.

My cars in the shop :dunce: I'm trying some antihistamie cream. He seems fine, I think he got out fast enough that he's ok, I think I may have more bites than him. And these are the lil black fire ants, not the crazy red amazonian ones, thank god

Its because they already made their $400-$650 on that one visit.
Lunch time ;)
lol. I called my uncle who grew up around here(and my grandfather bred dogs so he's been around tons), he said his dog, granted it was a bulldog, used to dig up the nests and be covered with them, the only thing I gotta worry about is an allergic reaction.

haha did you ever stop to think that maybe your vet just has awesome prices? my vet charges at least 100-200 where I live, such a rip off.

And for the foot, I don't know if it would work for dogs but I always put arnica gel on bites and stings and it always takes the pain away and cools it down.

If you have access to some pure aloe Vera (plant form) you can apply it to the affected area and it would greatly help your dog.

damn dude i don't know if anyone's said this or not but your first instinct should be to call the vet if your animal is hurt instead of posting it on RIU.

my own two damn cents.

my cat almost got killed by a raccoon earlier this month.

Malt vinegar, put an inch or two in a shallow dish and stand his feet into it. Works great for bee stings....
