GPS and a barometer on the FC for altitude and it has inertial sensors like those used in a cellphone too, it is basically the stuff you find in a cellphone. GPS can give altitude, speed and heading, most RC planes don't bother with a magnetometer for RTH or heading because planes move all the time and drones can hover.
Well, your cellphone (if you have one) can use a free app called spirt level that works very well as a level and they use the same or better sensor on a chip. GPS can supply altitude and heading data, no need of the magnetometer in a plane since it is moving. It will reduce its flutter in turbulence and smooth out the ride and in autonomous mode it will pilot the plane and respond to conditions, but there are limits. If you are in FPV mode the data is displayed on the OSD (On Screen Display) the HUD, when you set things up in betaflight, inav or arupilot, you can pick and choose what appears on the screen.

What would the magnetometer be for? Wouldn’t a compass do?

I’ve always seen magnetometer reserved for the rather sensitive instruments flown over land to locate ore bodies or over ocean to hunt subs.

The ring around China grows... Joe ain't fucking around, China wants to make nice now. Soon Russia will be fucked completely with a war of attrition, well before the 24 election and he will use additional aid to Ukraine and FEMA aid to their districts in the south to put the republicans on the spot. Joe only looks like a nice guy, but he can be a real cunt to America's enemies foreign and domestic, as he swore to do. Ask Vlad about Joe's strategy of slowly bleeding him white while using up all his legacy soviet arms before getting his ass kicked in a catastrophic defeat that could topple him and leave Russia weak and impotent.

The Russians are taking a pounding with cluster munitions and must be getting low on Trucks between artillery and drone strikes. They had a lot of leftover soviet shit; way more than their standing army could use and much of it was junk. Nothing ever went surplus in the old Soviet Union, it was stored and over the decades much of it pilfered for valuable items and nonferrous metals. They had far more military equipment than a country of 170 million would require and once most of it is gone, it is gone forever and much of the newer stuff depends on western technology.

When 90% of it is gone, it should be enough and give allies on their boarders the means to destroy Russian rail bridges inside Russia to eliminate any threats, since they will become even more dependent on the rails to move their army. Trap them inside Russia 100 miles inside their boarders by taking out the bridges between them and the border. The fight will continue in Georgia when they are fucked over in Ukraine and perhaps Belarus too, with Ukraine and the allies supporting a new regime. The war in Ukraine may end next year, but Russia will have trouble in Georgia I figure, they won't have a lot left and Ukraine will be at their throat. All those Soviet arms in Ukraine should be gathered up and refurbished by Ukrainians and given to Vlad's many neighbors and enemies, with the allies paying for it. Keep Vlad busy in his own backyard and continue to wear his military machine down.

I wonder how close Ukraine has come to producing and employing 10,000 FPV drones, there sure have been a lot of videos and they all use 860mHz receivers with modules for long range control. There sure have been a lot of videos popping up, mostly to show donors and volunteers how their money is being effectively spent. Some have the donor organizations name shown on the drones OSD in the videos as it approaches the target. We see most of the war from one kind of drone or another and the video they or their operators record, all FPV goggles have a DVR that uses a microSD memory card.

A net hanger might work for some drones, but the Ukrainian drones detonate with a downward blast above the target as it over flies it and not even a net structure over it would help. With enough cheap stealthy drones like those they have been using, they can drive the Russian airforce back beyond effective range. They don't have an airforce but attack the Russian airforce on the ground. They don't have a navy either but sink Russian ships on the high seas and in their ports.
