“Today, the first three UAV strike companies are ready for battle. Together with partners, they were fully staffed. Pick-ups, attack drones and Starlinks were handed over,” the minister wrote.

I don't see a prop on the back of that drone, and it is not microjet or EDF powered, so it must be set up for display. They could mount that catapult on top of the truck and launch on the move or move quicker once they launch. A cat allows a heavier payload to get off the ground than hand launching.

The plane design is called a Talon and it is popular in the RC world for FPV and my smaller foam version of it is "back packable" and has a mapping camera bay in the bottom rear of the fuse. The one I have is called a nano Talon and it can stay up for well over an hour with Lion batteries and can fly waypoint GPS missions as well as FPV, it is primarily an FPV RC plane and made for it.

Shame they used the same name as the slope soarer that was out in the 80's.

Looking on aliexpress from China. How about this little number for delivering a bang, gas powered for long range and electric for short range. You supply the propulsion, electronics, servos and payload and they supply everything else for about $ 700 CDN, if ya ordered 100 it might be much less than a few hundred bucks USD per unit. Look familiar? It has nearly a 10 foot wing span. You can dispense with the landing gear and its drag for a suicide drone and even launch it from a moving half ton or a catapult with increased payload.

It might cost you a few grand to get it in the air with a gasoline engine and a very long range using GPS guidance, but it is a dirt cheap precision delivery system for HE at very long distances. This is just one example of the many types of drones sold online from China, there are larger complete ones too, whatever ya want and shipped by the container load. You can order everything here, from the airframe to the servos, engines flight control computers and assorted electronics and have it shipped by the container load to a warehouse for assembly.

Considering the cost of a military drone or even an artillery shell, this is a bargain, as long as the enemy can't effectively defend against it.

$10 K gets you this with a 50Kg payload, able to rain down 50 hand grenades on a trench line or drop 10 heavy mortar rounds on individual targets at night. 2 guys in a half ton with one of these and a supply of bombs or grenades pre packaged as modules that they hook up and plug into the drone could do a good night's work and travel for miles along a front line with each new flight.

Just replace the liquid tanks and make a few mods plus a night vision camera, some extra electronics and shielding. $10K is cheap considering how many tanks and APCs it could destroy on a single night mission.

Hey, if I was Ukrainian, I'd make dirt cheap foamboard RC planes and cover them with aluminum tape to reflect much bigger on Russian radar and launch them north towards Moscow to see if I could make them use up some SAMs or trigger their air defense systems. Crowd funding could buy parts and they might cost $50 to $100 bucks each if ya got a shitload of parts in bulk.

how much extra for not from China?

Wanna build a foam board or cardboard RC plane/drone?

This turns a 10" prop and costs $35, other parts like a receiver and an FPV system and or an FC and GPS are required, but you can make a flying wing with just two servos and people hold FPV wing races. This illustrates the price of things, and this motor and prop could easily power a small switch blade equivalent suicide drone with a few hundred grams of plastic explosive. There are also hundreds of YouTube videos and other instructions online showing how to turn parts like these into cheap aircraft made with modern materials on a work bench with a minimum number of simple hand tools.

Dunno, most stuff is made there these days, the old hobby store has gone, and things are dirt cheap from China (one way or another) online now, cutting out several middlemen. I'm just talking about the hobby stuff and that comes in different scales, right up to gas powered planes with 100 Lb payloads. Anybody can order it by the containerload with some lead time. Those small hobby flight control computers that use GPS and cost under $100, can also control those larger drones with some signal amplification for the heavier servos. It is GPS enabled flight control computers that can use several GPS systems that make them deadly precision long range weapons usually able to hit inside a meter or two. FPV gear makes them suicide drones. This shit is ubiquitous and is based on Arduino and you can do the same kinds of things with one.

Hobbyist have even used 4G cell service to FPV for many miles at low level using a cell usb data dongle with a sim card.

The US military's 'without peer' advanced vertical take-off drone

42,241 views Mar 27, 2023 #forcesnews #usmilitary #drone
The US Navy recently tested out a new drone in the ocean between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.

Dubbed by its manufacturer, Aerovel, as "the most advanced Group 2 small tactical unmanned aerial system", the Flexrotor is no ordinary drone.

The Flexrotor boasts some impressive features, according to Aerovel, which contribute to the drone being highly proficient in protecting military bases and other important assets by detecting unusual and threatening activity as well as explosive devices.

"The conventional wisdom is that wars end in negotiations. But their end is more often determined at the ballot box – or even in the opinion polls. A lack of public support brought America’s war in Vietnam to an end, the French war in Algeria to its close, and – with Slobodan Milosevic’s defeat at the ballot box in 2000 – ended the wars in the former Yugoslavia. Ukraine’s Western allies have so far been surprisingly united in their support for Kyiv. But Vladimir Putin surely hopes that Western public opinion will turn, leaving Ukraine high and dry.

In his state of the nation speech delivered a few days before the anniversary of his invasion of Ukraine, the Russian president made it very clear that he is positioning for a long war, hoping that the logic of democratic politics will exhaust Western support for Kyiv and allow Moscow to prevail."

"the results indicate that the desire for the war between Russia and Ukraine to end as soon as possible is no longer as popular among Europeans. In several countries – Estonia, Poland, Denmark, and Great Britain – there is now a clear preference for Ukraine to regain all of its territory, even if it means a longer war or more Ukrainians being killed and displaced. In Germany and France, the number of those who would like to see the war end as soon as possible has dropped significantly. In Germany, almost as many people now want Ukraine to regain all its territory as want the war to end as soon as possible. And in France, the long war option has a slight lead over the option to end the war as soon as possible. Only in Italy and Romania do many more people still think the war should end as soon as possible. "
