You internet generals are silly and don't know the basics. The Abrams can run off a very wide variety of fuel, like diesel and JP8.....
That makes more sense, but the issues of size and transport as well as maintenance appear to be problems and maybe America should consider something along the lines of the leopard as a more flexible option. Sure keep the Abrams, but the only place they are likely to be used is against China, Russia will be pretty well fucked and can't make tanks, or much of anything. The key points are the sheer weight and technical complexity, they want leopards for a reason, they are better suited to the conditions. Tanks are needed for offense and that's what these will be used for, Abrams would be nice and would break the Russian lines slick as snot. There are issues, including one falling into Russian hands and they would pass it along to the Chinese, who might be able to do something with it.

Uncle Sam is sending 30 Abrams and Germany is sending just 14? Other countries use them too, including Canada and whatever we have in Europe will probably go too, we have around 100 leopard tanks and I can't see us needing any of them in the near future. I'm sure Uncle Sam would like them sent and wouldn't mind back filling in North America for now.

This should send a clear message to Vlad, get out of Ukraine by spring or your army gets destroyed while being ejected from there. If you keep attacking Ukrainian cities after you are ejected from Ukraine, then they will unleash a torrent of drones on you, personally...

That might be part of the wait for spring message, there appears to be trouble at the very top of the Russian military effort and changes are afoot. It might be an effort to give them a chance to withdraw in good order, because the alternative could be a large scale catastrophe for them. That could lead to unexpected and unwanted consequences, desperate acts... Always leave a cornered rat a way out and this could be the way, leave now or suffer a humiliating total defeat with Belarus is as good as gone. Or pull out of all of Ukraine and try and hang onto Belarus which they are more or less occupying now. If Belarus goes, so too does Kaliningrad on the Baltic coast.

Even if Vlad were to pull out of Ukraine, his army has been so mauled and spent, it is a mere shadow of it's former corrupt self. It's equipment and ammo stocks have been depleted and it's officer corps decimated. It's confidence and moral has been shattered along with it's reputation and they won't be fit to attack anybody for a very long time. They cannot even produce what they need to field an army or fight a war, including personnel. The Europeans and others are now confident they could stop and defeat them on their own with conventional arms and allies, the bear is no longer feared by his neighbors.

the 30 abrams will be of less use than the 14 leopards.
abrams will sink in the mud and waste a lot of expensive hard to obtain fuel. their highly complex systems will break down, and the Ukrainians won't have anyone trained to fix them, or parts to fix them with. they will take two to three times as long to train on, and their only possible real use will be as a static wall of defense, that will be easily sniped with russian rockets....they never should have sent them, and Ukraine made a mistake asking for them.

They can be sent into Poland for repair and upkeep if need be. So much of foreign policy is signals, and these tanks are one of those signals. I'm sure we made a deal with Germany so they don't feel so naked out on that ledge by themselves.

And so far Ukraine has shown they can manage whatever they have given to them. Anyway, I figure we have another year or two of this war, so there will be time for training.

EVERYTHING can be sent to Poland for repairs....how many repair people do you think are in Poland waiting for this? How many people in Poland are qualified to fix an Abrams? so they'll have to leave a trained repair crew sitting idle in Poland, with a warehouse of parts, waiting for the inevitable breakdown...which they better hope doesn't happen in a losing battle, or russia will be the ones taking the fucker apart, before sending the parts on to China...Germany feeling naked out on a ledge? they could wrap themselves in the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN AID AND MATERIAL WE HAVE ALREADY SENT, while they've sucked their thumbs.

It's all about sharing the risk. It will be rough for Ukraine to use the Abrams on thunder runs, but if it helps clear the red tape holding up the Leopards it will be worth it. Anyway, we will be sending them mothballed tanks.
yeah i was just catching up on that this morning......and from the looks of it, there is gonna be a lot more coming....

now that's a list

p.s the bullshit brigade is fuming right now, and funny

Poland is a NATO country. There is nothing that says we can't station our own guys there to work on them. Any of the other NATO countries can do the same. Part of the deal will be training and spare parts. I'm guessing it will be at least six months before any of them are in county, so lots of time to figure all that out.

We have a lot of Abramses.
44 tanks is one (1) Imperial Russian Shitload. They’ll make a real difference.

Oh they would be just the thing to crash trough the Russian lines after an artillery and drone preparation, followed up by light fast vehicles that can sow chaos and mayhem in the Russian rear. They could lead the charge of leopards to the sea of Azov, or the Russian border in the east. While they are training on them in Poland and western Ukraine, they can get the logistical train together and make sure they can get them where they will be needed, assuming no American restrictions on their use, an obvious one would be no American tanks inside Russia! No parades of Abrams down Red Square!
