Uncle Ben's Gardening Tweeks and Pointers

Only reason why they will legalize marijuana. They don't care about its medical properties! They just want to tax it and make money. Cool poem, not too funny but a good reminder of what's really going on.

I doubt if the feeding had any impact. I added a lot of blood meal to my soil mix once and did get a whiff of ammonia coming off the pot. The N has to be turned into an ammoniated form before nitrate. Same with the urea in your 20-20-20.
Probably a good ol' case of placebo effect...I wanted to notice an immediate change, and so I did.

Thanks for the info UB.

Can't resist going a bit off topic. This poem from Charlie Reese, former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel who nailed congress and the President.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
I'll read this in my head as I file and submit my 2nd quarter payments next week.
It's going to take just about every dime I have at the moment. Ahhh, A fresh start (trying to be positive).

......Temperature and the importance of day/night differential - In general, a 85/70F (32/16C) day/night temp is best for most hybrids for maximum carbo production. What's really important is a good drop in temperature at night, of at least 15F/4C. If night temps are too high, the plant will use up the carbos manufactured during the day to the process of respiration as opposed to plant cell division/elongation (tissue production).
From the U. of N.C., College of Ag and Life Sciences - http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/weather/tempeffect-plants.html

Thermoperiod refers to daily temperature change. Plants produce maximum growth when exposed to a day temperature that is about 10 to 15°F higher than the night temperature. This allows the plant to photosynthesize (build up) and respire (break down) during an optimum daytime temperature, and to curtail the rate of respiration during a cooler night. High temperatures cause increased respiration, sometimes above the rate of photosynthesis. This means that the products of photosynthesis are being used more rapidly than they are being produced. For growth to occur, photosynthesis must be greater than respiration.

Everyone should read this page and memorize it from top to bottom.

UB. First I would like to thank you for some nice inputs. I too was one that was led down the dark path of nutrients. I have pulled out some nice yields but never really happy. I have read a lot about the Dyna-gro and going to go with that line for my next run. I am a full soil person and have the Foliage, protekt and the mag pro ready to roll. Can you recommend a base line mix of these nutrient? I was just thinking about staying with the maintenance amounts. Also should I add the Bloom into this mix or just stay with these three. Your help is appreciated. Thanks

No Bloom Foods here :-)

Soil was amended with Fox Farm Marine Cuisine granular fertilizer 10-7-7 and any deficiency was adjusted with Peter's Citrus Feed 20-10-20.

Thanks Man! The Budweiser is pretty good too, no headaches or the wretched swamp gas that the original Bud gives me ...heh heh heh, they must have left out their magical secret ingredient "Formaldehyde"

Cooter Nice looking plants and bud. Good to see someone else using the citrus feed. I have this waiting to be used from start to finish next cycle to see how is does. Been using classic and blossom as well with great results.

UB update on that ballast from woot. When researching it it states is give off no rfi so i bought it. Now I set it up and took the radio outside and was surprised when I heard static on all the radio stations. Some areas are worse then others so now I gotta figure out if its worth it to try and block it somehow or try and return it. Bummed me out since the reviews looked good on it. Was the ipower ballast and got the 1000 watt. Thanks for the link above as well. Great article to go in the bookmarks.

Kite thanks for the recommendation on the radiant. Got it set up and very happy with it. Great light distribution and great price. Am going to pick up other one here soon. On sale for 100 on that site now.

Radio? I thought transistor radios went out years ago. :) Yeah, if there's something misleading then get with Woot. They are a solid company.

Good luck,

Thanks UB that's what I thought. Stay with the maintenance amounts? I found a chart online and figured just like you said extend it out and ignore the bloom adds and read the plant.

Nice job. Great beer too! Bud did a good job on that recipe.
I dig the black crown too....it seems to always be on sale, beer in Hawaii can get a little pricey and I'm a cheap bastard, i guess the sun shines on a dogs balls every now and then

Hey, Uncle Ben, Thank you for this great thread, its perfect, such a good info in one place.

Need to ask one thing, what soil mix u use and recomend to others? Indoors.

I mix up my own soil, pretty much a 50/50 blend of inorganics and organics. This is probably the best ditty I've seen on soil culture - http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/contain/msg0316064615891.html?14

If you have large plants with a lot of foliage and roots (which I do) then you might want a tight soil that retains moisture to cut down on your maintenance. Sounds odd but there has been plenty of times I've added clay powder to my pots to tighten them up a bit. Even still, watering a 3 gal. pot with at least one quart of water a day gets old.

Good luck,
UB

This is grazy! Must be wrong.
Explain what's crazy. I'm gonna warn you, you argue with me and the U. of N.C., College of Ag and Life Sciences, who present solid botanical principles and you WILL get a spanking like I give to my troll boy all the time. He likes it, keeps coming back for more. Now, will you?

Let's go.......

yo ganja I see you everywhere following UB and disagreeing with him. Why are you wasting your time? Somebody with that much experience in all types of crops with the education he has that follows can not be completely wrong. Let alone all the scientific evidence he provides to back it up. And he is an idiot ? Come on. Why do you even bother. Where are all your threads? You have any I can look at. Ill tell what I used to prune and do all that stupid shit. I' personally have had improved yields and much healthier plants cause of UB. So ill ask again. Where are your threads ? Or do you just follow ben around and give him shit. I want to see evidence of what you suggest to everyone around here. Feel free to send me any links. Tired of seeing you post stuff with nothing to back it up.
