More than likely I would just use a grow tent but I'd get a good one, tie it down and reinforce it and set it up on the deck, under the bimini or in the cockpit. If I get a center cockpit it will be safe from wind in a squall but still cool and I could rig something so if I have to toss the plants overboard they'll be weighted so they sink. I don't know, haven't really given it a lot of thought. Cooling would be easy on a boat though, the least of my worries. 600w of led could flower a lot of plants, I just want to flower four (maybe even just two) while consuming fewer watts.
Where is all the power coming from? How do you keep the salt water out during storms?

Good questions. Probably shore power but if solar, battery and LED tech continue to advance they way they have been, it may even be possible to reach a nexus of these factors where it is possible to power a small set up on solar and the sun is there in case something goes wrong. I'm probably just dreaming. As for keeping it dry, I wouldn't be doing transpacific voyages constantly. There are enclosures for the cockpit and ideally I would be getting my hands on a 50 foot center cockpit and fixing it up. I would be moored somewhere most of the time. Even for example if I were to do some island hopping for a year in the Lesser Antilles, I would be sailing for a few days and then moored for a couple weeks, repeat etc...

The biggest consideration would be customs inspections. Until it is seaworthy (let's face it, the only boat I'll ever be able to buy without financing on what I can save up will be a fixer upper) I would probably be living in a marina in San Diego.

San Diego? Lesser Antilles? I've heard it's stupid spendy to go through the Panama Canal. You know something I don't? I'm the first to admit I don't know much about it.

The Lesser Antilles thing was an example but the Canal isn't that expensive for small private sailboats like it is for ships. The cost of it including the fee is under $2k. Then I would be very near San Blas so worth it.

I've been lurking sailing boards and they say that a Suez transit shouldn't cost more than $300. By comparison, $2k is a pretty steep fare.
