Thinking of buying HLG

You can get away with 25watts per square foot if you use good led,s IMO. Many do and the results are fantastic. 650 watts of good led's will cover a 5x5. Newer led's put out more light per watt then older ones did. You could use more but you don't have to.
Yes you can, but you need those watts spread ideally for that to work well. If you have all of them in the middle then you lose a lot of light to walls thru high hanging height. You can settle for lower intensity in sides and corners.

650w of light divided over 4-6 single hanging boards would do well in that space. Maybe if you had a warehouse with multiple 650s hanging high you could also do it.

Below is the parmap of the hlg 550: ideally you want +700. Already below 700 in the sides of a 3x3 section. The 650 bring more watts to the same formfactor: a 5x5 at 30" would look similar.

Also note on their web that the 650 is actually 630w.

One of the main reasons people do better with leds than hps is due to being able to spread the light out better, for an even "right under the bulb" intensity all over your cannopy. The 550/650 dont have this spread, but the scorpion does but then were at 1400$.

Based on OPs requirements this seems like a no brainer, dont understand what the fuss is about.

Dont fall victim to the "everyone must use my light cause i love it"-fallacy; im sure it rocks your 4x4 but a 5x5 is +50% more space.

I don't suggest he uses my 600, he was looking at the 650. I would suggest he uses 4 panels instead for optimal spread but the fact is that most don't have endless budgets. I would also recommend the Scorpion but was beyond OPs budget. To keep within budget I would start with the 650 and add to it later, he has room. It's not about his full space but rather canopy size so bring the plants in and lower your footprint a bit. I think many just don't factor in that lighting a 5x5 optimally can be cost prohibitive for some all in one shot. I agree with you that more light would be better, I just don't think we all need to deal with it all in one shot. Personally I have a 4 plant limit so I went from a 5x5 to a 4x4 when I bought my light and it rocks that space. The 650 will leave him lots of room to add extra fixtures as time goes along. It's not about "everyone must use my light", there are many lights that will get it done so I don't think that way at all.

Iv been thinking about adding more lights as I go as well because with corona and everything I dont have much money to spare, I thought 600Rspec would at least do a good enough job in 5x5 with just smaller buds on the very sides of the tent which could be used for getting wax and making edibles.

I’ll put another word in for Budget LED/Elevated Lighting with their new 650w Demon Board (since were looking that way) If not maybe invest in 2 of their 330w Series 3+ Full Spec Infinity Boards. I bought the 500w version for my 5x5 and my plants are loving it after 3 weeks. Also have a MarsHydro SP250 I bought for my last grow for supplemental lighting come flowering (to help my 3 year old 500w HLG QB which I gave my sister for her veggies tent)

I should also mention that they come fully assembled for you.

QB 288 R Spec V2 with Heatsink are on sale for $94.
10 percent of with RIU10
Not sure what's best for drivers. You could run them all separate at 135w with 4 drivers and have options. Or run two with the HLG240 driver?

seems cheap until you realize the QB96v2 with heatsink are on sale for $62, with code and those can push ~50 more watts than a 288

I get it, many are short of funds while the world spirals in this pandemic. It's great that folks always point out the optimal lighting but there is always a budget or at least in most cases. It is also not the only option. I myself dropped from a 5x5 to a 4x4 when I switched from my 1000w HPS to my 600 watt HLG. It was a cheaper option than buying more light and I only have a 4 plant limit so a 4x4 is great for me. Gives me 37.5 watts per square foot and actually 39.375 watts per square foot with the UV bar. I also looked at the Diablo but I had a hard enough time justifying paying for the 600 Rspec and UV bar attachment. That's why I lowered my tent size. I am sure the 650 will do a respectable job in the OP's tent and can always be added too. Will sure beat the hell out of many of the blurples people grow with.

The Demon Board looks like a nice light. 301H diodes, Meanwell driver.

Been using 3 HLG 600 H lights, 2 in 4x4 and 1 in a 5x7 room with flat white painted walls. They can absolutely burn up plants in a 4x4. I have them dialed back to roughly 400 watts at 28" for flower. In the 5x7 room running 100%, Meanwell 600h 54A, about 650 watts at the plug. It has absolutely performed in the 5x7, albeit with a rotation of locations. That being said, in the 5x7 I think the new Scorpion would be a better choice, 5x5 the 600r would work for me without a doubt. Hope this helps. Inlakesh

Anyone have any experience with them? I watched lots of tests and did a lot of research. At first was gonna get a mars hydro but decided to not do that and spend just a little more (where I live mars is double the price of the original so its just scamming people imo with crazy price tags for a budget light) I will only have to pay 200-400$ more to get HLG, what do you guys think about their lights? Also I cant get the newer Diablo versions that come with more diodes the rspec version is what I can afford
I just have a baby one the hlg-100 on my mother and it’s beautiful. Great light

So, what is your max budget? We know your space; 25sq/ft.
Whenever I hear "budget" with led, and csa approval and all that isn't needed, I suggest diy with hlg (because of cost, I'm somewhat familiar and can recommend with confidence).
I think you could save quite a bit diy with hlg.

A "scorpion" fixture is just three slate xl heatsinks spaced out and pre-built (with 600w power supply), am I the only one who thought this when it first unveiled? Anyone who has/gets six or more 288 board/sink combos has a scorpion too. You can arrange them however you like; scorpio, taurus, gemini, virgo, flying-v, box-and-1, horns, shotgun, h-pattern, the choice is yours.

yes my tent with 6 diablos on 3 large heatsinks with a remote driver is essentially the same.

hlg doesnt sell diablos as bare boards anymore, though i do.
I am going to be hitting you up for those bare diablo boards and drivers for a mass purchase when get my building up later this year.
