will a 250 watt MH and 250 HPS light be sufficient for 1 or 2 weed plants and a couple of basil plants? and how much will this raise my electric bill?
that will be perfect. it depends where you live on the electric bill, i have almost triple that in just lights and my bill is about 60-80 dollars more per month

I just switched to a brand new CMH (ceramic metal halide - NOT a conversion bulb, runs in HPS magnetic ballast) for my last 1 - 2 weeks of flowering, we'll see if it's as hype as everyone says for blasting out the trichs. So far there is one added benefit - looks like it runs 5-10 degrees cooler than the HPS. nice.

Im running a 400 HPS>.. still havin heat issues.. hopefully my new inline fan will help. Any ventilation suggestions for a 400 watter? my room is 3x4x8

if you live in a southern state .. im gonna be dead honest. Your gonna have to find a way to a/c the room. lol. heat is a bad complication when you mix hid with hot weather. good that you got an hps though : ) if your plants dont die from heat the flowers will be NICE!

youve heard the ceramic mh is better than a straight up dual spectr hps for flower? thats crazy ... i havent heard that at all ... is this new tech? the whole running cooler thing is a nice touch , i heard they cant run with electronic ballasts though ... : (

i know what you mean, i finally got the guy to give me a good deal on the rockwools tho. i get the 6 inch hugos for 100 bucks, 48 ina box. well i did the last time. i think from now on its 120 tho lol but still. good ass deal.

are your lights air cooled?

yup. the inline fan sucks air from my room which in the summer is air conditioned and pushes the air onto one bulb while the exhaust fan pulls heat from the other bulb and room and into my veg and clone room, which has a carbon filter constantly scrubbing with a squirrel fan and that gets pushed out in my bathroom, then out the window.

I run 2x1000k Hortilux super HPS, both aircooled, and one 600watt hortilux super HPS. For veg room I run a 400watt MH, and 160 watts of flouros.

Niceeee. I know the guy who works at my store. He hooked me up with a t5 4 foot 8 bulb high output fixture for $125 bucks. Good ass deal : )

lets see what i got...

2010-02-16 01.40.44.jpgthis was before the carbon scrubber, that black pipe that points up is where the scrubber is now. the right side is the 1212 side and what you are looking at is the mom and babies room.
i'll try and get some better pics in a little bit.

Hortilux ALL DAY. and nice mh for that veg room. Hows the heat from all the hps ?

well i stay at 73-77 Farhenhiet, but thats using 4 fans, and pumping air directly from my basement, and directly out and up my chimney. With almost 1.5 K fans I am able to keep humidity and temps low. I also run my lights at night, since I'm in a setting where i don't worry about FLIR or nosy nieghbors. With the right fans and ducting there's no reason you shouldnt be able to get your canopy temps down to within 2 or 3 degrees of your ambient room temps.

Don't go cheap on fans, theres a reason they cost more than your lights! Too many people get cheap on essential shit, and i dont get that.

seriously, meng! Even just running to lowe's is like an $80 trip every time. I just consider it a hobby, don't worry about making my money back. Every little improvement is fun and I enjoy it. And the end result is sooooo worth it

yeah ... i learned my lesson. First three things i bought were a cheap light 400 watt hps , then a cheap 4 inch inline , then a cheap carbon filter. I dont use any of those three things now ... ive upgraded. only cost me like ... TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. lol. for real though ... shits expensive. lol.

yeah thats what we all share in common for sure. We all love weed and we all want a nice dialed in grow room.

Heres a little look at what just the damn light cost me

hortilux dual spectrum 600 watt hps lightbulb - $117.95
Galaxy Selectable Ballast - $399.95
super sun 2 reflector air cooled hood - $141.95
Wind tunnel inline fan for hood - $182.95

Thats 842.08 without the tax. and before the 10% discount. 758 bucks with the discount ... yikes.
