haha yea found em ata yard sale for 75 cents a piece so i figured why not make my room a lil prettier =P
but yea thats actually what im saving up for. i found a local shop that has real cheap lamps from sunlight-supply.com so i upgraded from cfl to the 150's for $89.99. then uprgraded to the 1000w when they had one on sale for $350 flat rate. figured the 150's wud b better then cfls for veg.

def post that grow journal. HID > CFL for the end of time. Do yall prefer 600 watts over 1000ks or vice versa? ive heard the 600 is the most efficient.

600 is the most efficent for lumen:watt ratio.

I like my 400w though...haha

yea 600 is more efficient, tho i always run into deals making the 1000w better price wise. i figured it out and wut i saved on my lamp will pay for the extra energy for almost a year haha
but im starting to type the journal, ill hit yall with the link later tonight =]

I am using 1k HPS's. Air cooled - couple of the typical type of hoods and one cool hood.

The cool hood does not disperse the light like the others but it sure stays cool.

I vent my room through my lights into a carbon filter. I have an a/c forcing air in all the time to make up for the air out.

Pics of my current grow and my first grow thread;

Here are some top secret pics - not really - not anymore as I am posting them now.

hell yea, iv been dreaming of getting a co2 generator. do you know the recipe for the sugar and yeast method? been lookin around and cant seem to find it after the site update.

Its 1 tbsp yeast to 1/3 cup sugar in a 2 liter bottle, filled 1/2 -2/3 of the way with luke warm water. The warm water activates the yeast, but if it is too hot it will kill the yeast - it is a live bacteria er something close to that. Mix the hell out of it for a minute or so, it last about a week, I shake mine every "morning" - sometimes I take it out at "night", prolly should take it out all the time

I have doubled the recipe and put it in a 1 gal milk jug or an old nute bottle. I havent found any extra results with this.

Sometimes I put the regular concoction in 1 gal jugs too its fine and more manageable.

To optimize the results, stick a hose in the top of the bottle and channel the co2 of to the top of your canopy so it will fall on the plants. Or put it behind a fan pointing up. I always have a fan pointed at the lights, this is where I set my bottles.

When I really used to keep up on it, I would have 3 of them going at a time. I had them in a 6x8x6 area at the time. I would put the first one in and wait 2 days, add the second wait 2 days, and add the third. About a day or two later I would be replacing the first and so on. I got up to 1800 ppm's in there though, so it must have done something. It would be better for smaller grows though - closet or box - pc or cabinet.

yea im not sure if this would help at all in my basement, its a huge open floor room. probly about 25x12. thinking about it like that makes it seem more like a chour then an advantage lol

Yeah, def a chore, you dont want those co2 levels under your house either - wont kill but cant be good for health of the occupants - it can kill dont get me wrong.

oh yea iv deffinatly thought of that. why i havent gotten a nice co2 generator in the past actually haha
i have a gas furnace in the basement that doesnt work, the main gas line is completely turned off. but the pilot light still burns, i turned it off and the plants reacted very negatively. i think that little flame is creating almost all of the co2 down there. well other then air that seeps in through the dirt walls haha

I can imagine how they reacted to straight gas. lol

You may want to consider trying to enclose your garden, not only for co2 but the dirt is going to retain moisture and bugs and stuff. Have you done a full harvest down there before?

If your closed up you can get burners made to accept your type of gas, you would have to pipe the gas to the "room" and hook it up tot he burner and burn away. This would be my pref but I dont have gas lines to my neighborhood - at all. I have to use the propane bottle, I will have to monitor it and refill when needed.

hehe when i said i turned it off, i ment i turned off the line tht puts the tiny bit of gas to the pilot light. so no gas was escaping, but without that tiny source of co2 they would die. and yes i have done 2 full harvests down there, the basement was built by kind of a jackass, im guessing 40-50 years ago. 1/4th of the basement is completely walled off from the rest of the basement. the 1/4th is finished, with cement floor, and brick walls. but the other 3/4ths is just an open pit, with all kinds of construction debree(dunno how to spell that?) that is really old. theres a few small crawl spaces going to this area. but theres tons of spaces along the ceiling going into this area from the grow spot, one side of the room a draft blowns in, the other side of the room the draft blows out. free ventalation haha and it comes straight from outside so its got quite a bit of co2 i would imagine. just gets a bit nippy at night. but yea damn, i didnt think of having the furnace there taking the propane bottle away. thats pretty niffty haha
