The fishing thread ( not about fish fertilizer)

Reels are above. At Montezuma I can make it close to 2/3 of the way across the water from that small peir.

Oh and BTW some fuckhead burnt the floor out of that peir with a BBQ. It's now shut down.
Well that sucks! But yeah i’ve never been fishing there and thought to myself, man I wish i didn’t cast this far. Lol. Most of my hookups were from long casts and you used to always see them roll more on the other side there

Ya i bet lol. Im guessing nothing but upper end could handle that . Can you even adjust enough spool tension enough to even help for something like that ?

No experience with casting weight that heavy but just as a fisherman, you guys are talking reels which i know is important but isn’t the rod a big factor in casting distance?
You are correct. Longer rod more distance. As already mentioned backlashes are a real thing and when you get a backlash while using a 16oz weight it gets really bad really fast. Gotta have the reel dialed in

We don’t have any river’s around these parts that need anything close really.
These same rivers when on a boat usually a 6-8 oz holds sometimes a 10 is needed depending on how ripping and big the tide is. But there’s also the really deep holes where 16 won’t even hold but of course when on a boat you don’t need to cast far more of a toss.

Ok right on i’ll try something new here soon.
I have to get all new boat rods and reels for the sturgeon in about 4 months when i’ll start targeting them down in the delta. Lost all my other gear in the fire. I’ll prob get 3 that are similar to the older Penn 320/1’s and ugly stick tiger rods for the crew but for daddy, i really like this certain Seeker rod and i had an Avet on it, i’ll pick up something better. And try hucking 16oz from the boat and if I feel it i’ll get a longer rod for casting reels for the bank.
What reel would you recommend?
I still got plenty 300 low profile size reels for the striper/salmon rods but that don’t cut it.
Well that depends man. Everyone's needs are diff.
Something like a 400 Calcutta conquest, tranx, Revo toro winch

@Jjgrow420 has the proper idea. Next baitcaster I buy for Sturgeon will absolutely be a DC reel.
Prob gonna go with the calcutta. I got a buddy who loves them, the 300 size. Gotta go feel the 400 and see if it feels right.
And no offense to the cardiff but i have a couple small ones on some lake trolling setups and they just don’t feel that solid. Never have tried the bigger ones though.
