buddy killed a nice 5 today, i was out to help, finally. it was good to be in the woods to see the sun come up and hear the wildlife wakeup.

i still hate squirrels! noisey little fukers, lol.

heading down to some private land to check out what i have to work with, first time seeing it, excited!

That's why I bring my Gamo Big cat 1250 and silencer with me. Squirrels be gone.

I got busted by a squirrel in Illinois while bow hunting in my climber, the little fucker wouldn't shut up.
I left a very expensive broad head & arrow stuck in a tree.

So the other day while I was out hunting, I swapped out my memory cards in my trail camera and I checked the photos and I caught a couple of trespassers on my uncles land where I hunt.

I'm thinking about digging a trench and putting a bear trap in it or something.
Any suggestions?

I think your kidding SGT, but if not, anytime you set a boobytrap, you're guilty of a crime. It doesn't matter if someone is on your property, or breaking into your house to steal your plants, you still can't do it.

Maybe they were just looking for a deer? Your Uncle recognize them? Scratch that...they're hunting, probably raccoons. That isn't cool. Those guys always have an excuse like "how am I supposed to stop my dogs from running, they don't know property lines?" Thats annoying, they track all over pushing deer off your land.

I thought at first they might be dog tracking a wounded deer, but not with 3 dogs.

I butchered a doe today that was given to me, what a great deer. Nice gift! It even came from a DNR officer too, he shot it for herd management....I thanked him profusly .

Oh, that private land....sux. Unhuntable 80 acres. Its been heavily logged, and the neighbors have built all around it. Lots of deer run through, but it would be like sitting on my deck and waiting for them to come. No fun

Maybe he was practicing his fly casting skills and was too ignorant to know that you shouldn't do so with hooks in a wooded area???

Or maybe that deep hole was in preparation to experiment with a solar still?

Or maybe that snare was intended to catch game to feed his family?

Or maybe that simple noise-making trip-line was designed to scare off any animal predators?

Just playing a little devil's advocate and advocating the rights of a property owner to do as he pleases on his property.

I'm serious only to a certain extent. I wouldn't really put a bear trap, but I would dig a trench and have my camera set on video just so I can watch them take a stumble down the hill below.

I think what aggravates me the most is that I have taken so much time setting up the area for me and my step dad to hunt and then I have people coming around like this when they were not invited. I found out who they were and my uncle is taken the necessary actions to tell them not to return. I think the biggest issue is that last year we had asked the same people if we could hunt their land also since they live a little ways down the road on the other side of the woods, and they wouldn't allow us to do so and then they pull this crap.

I believe that the only reason that they would be on my uncles land is because my uncle likes to talk, and he tells everyone about the doe that I tagged not to long ago and from what I understand is that myself and one other guy has actually tagged any deer over there. Also, there is no hunting after night fall anyways, and I also don't want them messing with my food plots or anything else. I mean for all I know they could have gotten jealous and came over to put some stuff down to make deer not come back to that area, and in that case I may have to pass their death off as a hunting accident.

As of the moment I believe it should be fine. But I will be back hunting in a another few days or so since I only have one day of school next week. At that point I will check my camera again and see if they returned, and if they did, I may have to take matters into my own hands.

Holy smokes! I'd freeze up and not be able to get a shot, I know it. What a deer. I haven't seen a pic of that online yet, I'm surprised. Wish we grew them like that in Michigan.

I don't own a gun, though I have been shooting a great number of times (mostly 22, some shot gun). I also don't have any property to go to. I work with a few guys that hunt, but they all have their own thing going on and I don't want to be the noob that asks to tag along with a bunch of people I don't know.

There should be some public land that you can hunt on after obtaining your license. Go onto your states website and look up the license you need and there should also be a list of areas where you can go hunt. I'm not to sure about the hunters education course. I never attended it, but I went through a handgun carry course and I kinda feel as though it's the same thing. Not to mention I have been hunting for so long, and it only became a requirement not to long ago.

I kinda got lucky. I live in the south and there is a lot of land and most of my family are rednecks.
But as for the people that you work with. If it was me, I would join into their discussions about hunting and so fourth, and get them to invite me simply because they think I'm a really cool dude and they would love to bestow their knowledge on me.

You will come to realize that whenever you go hunting with a lot of older avid hunters, they love to tell you how to hunt and what you are doing wrong. Kinda like how my step dad loves to try and tell me how to hunt all the time even though I have been hunting for years and the only person that manages to tag a deer is, You guessed it, "me".

The first day of buck season in PA was pretty awesome today. Hunted from 5:30-5. Didn't get anything yet, saw 13 deer 11 doe 2 buck. I had awesome shots on both buck and they hung around for about 3-5 minutes each where I had my cross hairs set steady on the heart but they each only had 2 spikes max on one side so they weren't legal >< My cousin about a mile in the woods to my bottom left is on his last year of a junior license but they didn't go his way which is a little upsetting but whatever we both saw a shit ton of deer which is always great just being able to sit/stand and watch them do their thing. A hunter a ways above me (I was set up on a hill looking down) scared 8, EIGHT, doe down my way, they came trotting down only about 10 yards to my left. The first one spotted me and seemed spooked and was hesitant then more and more heads popped up and a squirrel or something cracked to the left of them and they bolted down towards my cousin. He said they were running straight at him and sharp turned only 5 yards in front of him, he was so still he damn near got run over lol. I'm going back out later this week, maybe Wednesday and if the weather holds I'm going Friday and Saturday but they might be calling for rain. Shooting an awesome Marlin .35 lever action, I love it to bits. I'm gonna head out when flint-lock season hits this year, my dad has an awesome .50 he's going to let me borrow. Too bad I didn't break out the bow to practice this year or else I'd be doing that too and I missed the time frame for my doe tag.
