Clockin out for the day. 10 wks full. Slight early chop just localized branches of white some hairs just a couple branches. Rest was 100% red haired.
Decent chop didnt take me for a spin was done enough and yielded more bud than the others. I might be losin the pheno, the rosin return will let me know. If its 12% instead of 15-18%.

Maybe youd be the one to ask since you turn so much of yours to extracts. You ever see such a large decline in return for no reason because its random or could a loss of a pheno be the culprit? Like 20% clones all the way down to 12%?
I was getting 20%, 19%, 17% then 15% now 12%. Used to always be 12% then hand trimming raised it to 20% but now its creepin its way down low as if I machine trimmed it. Which if I did Im pretty sure id get less than 12%. Theyre still just as frosty but lack hash in that frost.

Are you making rosin?
There's prob a lot of contributing factors that could make a lesser yield.... Id prob start with human error because that's the most likely culprit. There's so many steps involved from grow to press that really any variation within those parameters could and would return different results....
I really don't go as far as weighing and calculating anymore. I know if use x amount of bud I should get around x amount of said extract. If I get more or less what my avg tends to be I don't investigate any further. If it's way off low then I'll prob look at wtf I did wrong try another run and if same result then I start working backwards and try to figure out where I went wrong.

Yea flower rosin, everythings been as close to the same as possible up to now. Nothings turned my pucks into jelly doughnuts like hand trimming and upping the temps on the press. It even seems more potent and tasty.
Only things been different is I dry my bud horrendously but was going to dry some of it as normal as test that. Ive hit ok numbers since using box fan on each clone overhead and rh below 45%. So I dont think thats it.
I harvest the entire plant at once and press every bit of it and label my yield in % in that jar. Each clone gets its own jar. So I notice all kinds of differences between clones. Suddenly my flower rosin is black almost but besides that and struggling yield its ok. Ive yielded blonde rosin with box fan on it but was dried normal.
Now Im drying in flower room 80F and 35rh dries in 3-5 days. Before eould be 5-8days. I dont get why more time in acceptable enviorment vs less time in flash dry conditions would be culprit. Seems obvious at first but Ive had blonde rosin in all same conditions even in horrid dry conditions.
Hash doesnt just dissapear, now maybe before you can extract it but not a quater ounce lost out of an ounce difference. It grows in that enviorment, its just drying really quick in there too.
Man I wish it was all well known and if it is Id love to accept it and do whatever I have to but my grow is such a research lab. The way I cant get one to explain each thing I get conflicting results with. Its all I want, no smoking so if I dont get it I really lose out on it. So I track it pretty well. I know terps will be lost but a quater oz gone? Hand trimmed? Never agitated?

Ya I duno man. It you dry poorly you get oxidizing which turns your products dark. Dry is Just as important as growing. I do everything I can to dry in an ideal environment.

This eighth clocked in at 19.1% so my horrendous drying lost me at least 2%. I lost 6 gs off a 36g flower rosin clone. Thanks for your input I should of listened sooner. Thing is, it might lose taste and looks but after a month or two it just aint as tart is the best word I can think of.
I have no dry space but quickly thought of solutions. If I only used a short amount of space Il need to wait like a week or up to three waiting for that full dry tent. Causing the same issues as it sits overly ripe in these crazy conditions.
Will just build my own shelving very tight spacing to fit as much bud possible. Something breathable. These 6 tier 2x2 dry herb shelfs are too big shelf spacing only can fit like 14oz and thats with buds overlapping denugged.
I gots to, Im all about yield AND it makes it look beutiful? Still pressing 220F and look at that honey money lol. Thanks jjgrow420 you helped me find my next oo la la moment.

Thats just crazy, yall saw me doubt it could take yield drying it that way. “Hash doesnt just dissapear.” Literally, if I leave a jar of hash uncapped in that enviorment and weigh it before and after a couple weeks, would I lose hash? Why not? Why was it subject to dissapearing with just those factors..

I haven’t done rosin, so I may be totally off here…..but, it seems to me it would be easier to extract when it was a higher humidity, oils dry as well, and become much harder to remove/extract. I only do BHO, but am very interested in the rosin. Thanks for the posts, love reading and learning. Peace

I havent done it in a while the normal way, they were super brittle. After 2-3 days but if you press it can still have water in the stem even tho it snaps. So Id wait another day or so and do a test press, if the dab pops and cracks its got water and needs more time. Not much tho as its hot and dry drying conditions. Windy.
But now its back to how I remember. The dab test doesnt matter much if you just wait the extra day but now I have to. Because the bud is spongy and stems some fold vs snap. So I guess the 60/60 keeps it in tact.
The rosin was just flowing it squished like a jelly doughnut. See thru slightly blonde. You can see thru the rosin as its balled up off of the parchment its like raw honey. Looks aint nothing to ke but it just so happens to have high appeal as a bonus but its important I guess.
It really does steal yield. I wasnt a believer in the rh bag testing the bud because its always like 52rh or lower and still does great. I didnt believe it could lock up in the material till I used a brick of bud the size of the plates.
Then I started considering it. Perhaps if theres no where to go and lack of heat from the oversized brick of bud, it can? I used to try to press at 64rh like it says everywhere to but thats not ever increase my yield. I think its exposure to air and temp, even 60/60 can shorten yield if u let it sit too long?
Maybe indeed a jar of rosin uncapped can lose terps obviously but worst yet could weigh less. Or its like honey in the sense that once its in that form its locked in.. Idk. Id think this applies to bho too if doing dried bud.

Man my notes are stoney and everywhere lol. Should add I dried about sometimes 3 days 4 days but been needing 4-5 days lately. The batch I set aside from the same literal cut only took 6 days in like 65F 60rh. Important details in my study even tho I didnt closely monitor those are rough readings in meter in tent near by.
Anyway so conclusion if working with dried bud flower rosin or dried bho Id do it asap. It will look super blonde even tho it was low rh and boxfan overhead the plant led on max lowered. 10wks flower. 85F. As yield can be lost the longer it sits there, its possible. Hand trimming and no agitation till extracting.

Idk why youd do dried bho other than you just have dried bud to get rid of. If I did bho id tooootally do live resin, why not. It was discovered in accident trying to consume dabs faster. All they did was freeze it and process it. Youd get everything Im talking about I guess purposely losing but Im a basic guy and it fits my basic needs.
We already talked about why earlier, while it seems safe its really the privacy for me. We got nosy neighbors and hell to the no I cant process a couple pounds of butane hash oil in the open. Even if we put up fences the home owners are not going to be talked into letting me do that. They notice and question everything and this wont fly.
We argued when my portable ac showed up like why the F do you need that. They just dont know that I already needed it when I had one tent. The leds run hot on ground floors for me. Maybe if I had my own place in the country ish area.

The only thing I dont like about bho is it leaves a rediculous amount of reclaim in lungs and teeth. Not all of them did that it tended to be the high thc ones. The 50-60% thc ones I just got the same brand till they ran out and got more. It didnt do that and just seemed more natural.
Idk if any of yall could explain why a lot of them did that from the dispensary. It was best quality it could be too its not one of those states that thats a problem. Its like cali or colorado in that sense after a while.
Aside from coming a long way with flower rosin I might as well keep it up but bho would be faster. I spend like 6 hrs labor processing a 7 oz clone dried bud to jarred rosin. I cant imagine where Id be if I kept investing in what I do tho. 30% yielding phenos.

220? That's really really high temp press. I never run over 175.

My pheno doesnt yield anything like 7% at 175F. Idk if I ever done 200F I just know 220F loosens it up and becomes free flowing. Its more tasty and potent for some reason and more yielding literally double. I read you can do 1.5 min at that temp but I just do 45 sec.
I dont notice any difference pressing longer, slower. Only thing that sky rocketed yield was 220F, hand trimming and now 60/60 drying I learned. I think it works the same with all strains, Id just try a lower temp if it does better quality and yield that way.
I had someone here press for me a pheno I was interested in and was nice enough to try that. It was slightly less yielding and different texture at 220F so obviously do the 175F. This pheno I got just aint like that tho its the opposite except it yields nothing at 175F worth keeping.

Actually I forget lol, I almost mentioned it but thought was just rambling but kinda have to now. So that was when I was machine trimming I got 7% low temp yield. Well I was sampling my first samples when still a hand trimmer, saw 15% low temp then 20% high temp and was like wow.
Then I bought a machine trimmer and did two perpetual rounds including that first grow from seed testing phenos. Only got 7% low temp and 12% high temp.
I randomly decided to hand trim a sample testing a new mini grow tent why not grow clones I already know right. I got 20% then realized all this. So I hand trimmed a sample of full size plants and boom 20% but they molded was still learning how to grow free of mold. PM and budrot.
So I had to wait until I grew a new run free of mold to start hand trimming whole clones. Then pressing and jarring the rosin seperately as I noticed they all have their own character/qualities and notes to make of. Yields etc. Here we are now 2 runs later screwed myself drying differently.
Anyway if Im not talking yalls ear off I got a 2x4 for 2 dry herb shelfs should hold 4-6 plants worth. I didnt want to complicate things it should work, not over stuffed shouldnt mold. No more aluminum floil boats of bud, like one said it will mold just not at the conditions I had. With 60/60 hell yea it can mold. Directly on dry herb shelf.

Its in cool dry basement now the 2x4 and herb shelves. So basically. 60/60 so I got my dry space back. Got a old dehuey which I found can operate above 41F so Il be good. It can lower it to 50rh easily if needed when you first put the freshly cut bud in there. Inkbird rh controller to keep 60rh.
